Design a two-colour card that takes a very different approach to that colour-pair than the corresponding Ravnica guild. E.g. a non-aggressive slow {r}{w} control card.

The key will be feeling very much like a {g}{u} card while feeling very much not like a Simic card.

I think this is probably fairly easy: a reasonable proportion of the gold cards from Magic's history would be at least slightly out of place in the corresponding Ravnica guild.

So to make a great entry here, try hard to make the card feel strongly like it needs to be a gold card (not just one colour or the other) and to distance it as much as you can from the guild.

This was inspired by Mark Rosewater's comment about designing for Boros:

> If all you had to design was one- and two-drop spells, you'd be golden. ... > > As the cards get more expensive, you start to see the colors pull in other directions. Red starts ramping into bigger creatures and larger destruction spells. White gets much more defensive and begins doing things to slow down the game. There does exist a slow red-white deck that acts more like a control deck using white's spells to stall and red's spells to blow up threats, but that deck is much harder to piece together than the weenie deck.

Oh, good question. I think the most interesting challenges are often simple ones.

I made Boros' Betrayal

Um. For those of us who couldn't give two stuffs about the lore... clue meHHus as to what the guilds are like?

...ok, who broke markdown?

You don't need to know lore. Just look at the cards and see what the guild's strategy is.

By the way, I really like this challenge.

  • RW, Boros: powerful weenie rush
  • RG, Gruul: SMASH WITH BIG CREATURES SMASH SMASH
  • RU, Izzet: Crazy wacky instant+sorcery hijinks
  • RB, Rakdos: Resource management + evil (AC adds: we're going to go all-out all-in, burn all our resources to kill you asap)
  • GW, Selesnya: Seraphic creatures (token creatures, multiple creatures, big creatures)
  • GU, Simic: Creature augmentation
  • GB, Golgari: Incremental benefit by reusing creatures from the graveyard
  • UW, Azorius: Smug (AC adds: Slow, controlly, "we set the rules so you can't do anything")
  • UB, Dimir: Sneaky (AC... yeah, that sums it up pretty well actually)
  • WB, Orzhov: Church of deals, stealing one life here and one life there and maybe a creature or two in ways the opponent can't comprehensively point to as unfair, but is pretty sure they're getting the wrong end of the stick

I made Winged Mysterite, though I'm not entirely satisfied with it. I'll come back to this later.

I like it, but I'm not entirely happy with its anti-golgari-ness, but Gravecleanse.

(I also made Harmontrate but I think that was a mistake.)
