I was wondering if there was a way around it by having one of the abilities trigger on ETB and the other be a death trigger. But I couldn't even make that work.
:)
Ha! Jinx!
When this creature comes into play, all target must be chosen, then the abilities go off. If we were to return the same black creature to play, and both targets were chosen, it would have to somehow be both in play, and in the graveyard at the same time. You could get around this by having the second ability say "return target creature in play, or in your graveyard to play" but... hold it... I don't even think that works. And it is very strange wording indeed.
But, props Alex. You got a new interaction, even if there is some clunkiness in the end.
It's the fiddliness of the trigger timing. If the graveyard ability were triggered, when the white one ETBs, you'd have to choose a target black creature on the battlefield and a target creature card in the graveyard at the same time. You want them both to be the black one. As it is, you can target the black one to destroy, and then at the moment you choose a creature card to reanimate the black one is there in time for you to choose.
Done as a level-up creature would eventually put a limit on how big it could get though. Making it comparatively weaker as the game goes on.
You can always use "When Loam Wanderer enters the battlefield or you cycle it,...". Especially because using "another" doesn't make any difference.
Personally, I like this entry. You definitely got more creative with it than my examples. They definitely look like opposites, but the looping resurrection is nice.
I guess I don't understand why the targeted version needs more of them.
Unfortunately in order to get that loop, I had to use the unpleasant non-targeted resurrection ability. The targeted version would need two of each to get the loop, which feels rather more implausible.
Yeah, this turned out to be a bit harder than I'd realised. I had a go with Cardinal of the Ebon Hand / Cardinal of the Holy Nimbus, but I'm not sure it's a very good entry.
Playing on the way black and white both get to reanimate (Breath of Life vs Zombify) and to destroy each other's creatures (Execute vs Purge/Lightbringer). These are effective at destroying each other, but also go well in the same deck. They provide redundant reanimation, they both like colour-wash effects like Distorting Lens, and they can loop with each other if you have some useful creature-ETB trigger. For example, one of each along with a Soul's Attendant is infinite life.

I decided to make a 2nd set of entries (had a brain exposion & thought I hadn't entered this one for some reason).
So here are my NEW entries: (((Phyrexian Scalper))), (((Pyrokinetic Daze))), (((Delirious Scout))), (((Spoiling Gladiator))) & Ingot Knight.
