Hmm. A universal Diviner's Wand. ...Oh, except it doesn't trigger in your draw step. Not so keen then.
Well, I'm trying Ancient Hieroglyphs. Not really sure about it, though.
For Challenge # 011.
Hmm. Myr Superion's ability on a land. Interesting.
Let's try Risen Knight
How about Elfhaime as a not-completely-affiliated-but-kinda-obviously-connected land. (It's also a snakehome, a myrhome, a birdhome...)
Sensible design. And yes, Lorwyn had a nice "Forest-and-Treefolk" theme, pointing out how similar the two concepts are. I like it when that line blurs.
Some further historical examples: Elephant Graveyard (which is what the Time Spiral Swarmyard is a reference to), and the eight-card Onslaught tribal land cycle: Daru Encampment, Unholy Grotto, Starlit Sanctum, Wirewood Lodge, Goblin Burrows, Contested Cliffs, Riptide Laboratory, Seaside Haven.
Note that the "ETBT unless you reveal" cycle that Jack alludes to was simple in Lorwyn for the two-colour tribes (Auntie's Hovel etc), but more complex in Morningtide with the one-, three- and five-colour tribes (Rustic Clachan, Murmuring Bosk, Primal Beyond).
My entry is Forest Seedling, an extension of the Dryad Arbor idea beyond the original land/vanilla creature implementation. I think/hope it is balanced. It certainly addresses a creature type that hasn't seen much attention recently.
For Challenge # 011. Inspired by Dryad Arbor obviously.
) it is really only useful in mid-late game when you will likely have mana to spare.
As it is a treefolk and they traditionally have greater toughness than power, I have started this as a 0/1 (I was originally going to make it 0/2 as treefolk toughness is usually equal to their power +2 - though not always) but that made it too good.
The second ability is there as the seedling "growing up". As it basically uses up 2 lands whenever you pump it (itself & the source for
How about this cycle from my Deliverance set:
Madir Crypt, Mine Lair, Pridelands Camp, Sacred Grotto & Treetop Watchpost.
I know they are for very popular tribes but I figured that, since they are already designed why not post them.
I think we can swing this, though. It's just asking for lands that work for a specific deck type. Imagining what you'd like a land to do when you have a lot of Elves, say, should be simple enough.
This is unexpectedly hard, since I can't think of anything that hasn't been done before.
Design notes:
* Current examples: some man-lands, "comes into play tapped unless you reveal" lands, swarmyard.
* If you want to do tribal, avoid the creature types with lots of "the number of X you control" lands, else it's too powerful (cf. affinity).
* Feel free to choose "morph" or "shapeshifter" as the theme even if it's not a creature type, and otherwise stick to the spirit of the challenge
I have a vague idea for a challenge - #12?
