Changed to creatures.
Shields of Velis Vel says hi
I like it. Reminds me of Scute Mob and Serra Ascendant.
This was created for Challenge # 008.
That last ability is rather surprisingly swingy and strong. Brooding Saurian is one thing, but even Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund's version was a oneoff rather than every turn!
This could probably be more nicely done as a level-up creature.
Introducing Chloris, the Hatchling
Adding in Coalesced Swarm for a Lord and Disturb the Hive for the associated sorcery.
I submit Adaptive Automaton and name [insert creature type with no other lord].
OK, I think I understand a bit better.
More like Melira, Sylvok Outcast and Phyrexian Vatmother. Or, for an example from creatures I created, Marthanos, Sage of Battle and Zerald the Covetous.
Would it be clearer if I said "Two cards that can hose each other, yet also work well together?"
Could you clarify what you mean by "run counter to each other or seem like opposites"? When I think of opposites in Magic, I think of Black Knight and White Knight, Lifeforce and Deathgrip, Negate and Essence Scatter. Is that the kind of thing you're thinking of?
My first choice was creatures, but you can make it any pair of types you like except planeswalker. No limits as to rarity or legendary-ness.
On Jade Raider, jmgariepy reminded me this is actually closer to Saprazzan Raider.
Unfortunately, they already named a card King Crab, and they didn't even bother having him give all crabs +1/+1. Blasphemy!
Hmmmm.... the crab lord would presumably give them all tide counters.
I'd like that too :) It may be have to be a combined crab/turtle/crocodile lord or something or there's really little choice... :)
If I'm honest, I just want to see someone make a Crab Lord.
:)
Alas, not the most really. Bears have six vanillas[1], and five of them are Grizzly Bears with different names. Goblins, Zombies and Elves have 7, and Cats 8. Humans have 40. But you may be right about the proportions (excluding any unique vanilla creatures, if there are still any), there seem to be only 17 total bears. But I'm not sure what other candidates would eb worth checking :)
[1] Excluding mistform ultimus and woodland changeling
Hahaha! I wonder if bears are the creature type with the most vanillas? They're probably in with a good shot at the creature type with the highest proportion of vanillas.
The (unfortunately very vague) feeling I have is that a lord is something that beenfits from lots of that creature. So something that says "tap five" counts, but something that says "tap 2", even repeatedly, or "exile 1 from graveyard" as you need a steady supply of them, but not necessarily as many as you can get. But I admit that's very subjective, I wasn't able to put it into words until just now, and I'm sure there are still lots of exceptions.
I also think, so long as there's no official judging, the spirit is more important than the letter of the law, and that the important thing is to avoid creatures with LOTS of lords, or creatures which already have a "canonical" lord. If there's already a mediocre or questionable lord, and someone makes a better one, I think that's interesting whether or not it qualifies, so long as people aren't looking for technicalities.
Edit: I do think Scarblade Elite is creepy.
Edit: muraganda petroglyphs is sort of a bear lord, but not by any of the criteria :)
Mmm, I can see that argument. He doesn't either benefit from or improve in any way other Assassins on the battlefield. Yeah, that's fair enough.
The reasons I don't classify Scarblade Elite as a "Lord" at least as far as this challenge goes, are:
1) He requires you to tap him directly to use his ability.
2) He only affects Assassins that are in your graveyard.
3) (linked to 2), He in no way improves/makes more useful any Assassins you may have on the battlefield.
So whilst yes, he is kind of an Assassin Lord I just don't think he is much of an assassin lord.
Spitting Image seems to suggest that green and blue can both get this effect. I don't really see black, though.
