I agree, they do look ugly without something in between. I doubt they would ever be printed. I just thought it would be a fun exercise.
No, I don't count Phyrexian symbols as hybrid.
Did you intend for it to be legal to do something like Phyrarion if the Phyrexian symbols were changed to 0/C hybrid symbols?
Every color can cantrip. Blue draws cards better, though, so it turns the "draw two cards" on. I'd assume that if I was designing these, I'd print a bunch of mechanics that every color can do: token creatures, counters and a vanilla body springs to mind. Probably have to stretch along color borders, but, to be honest, forcing a 4 color spell to have attributes of all four colors seems a bit of a mistake to me. Very messy. Better it gets its own identity.
oh, yes, you're right. editing it so it isn't middle of the roading.
also, that's a fair assessment. This card is more set to put the screws to black. I didn't work hard to tie in the flavor. I'll probably come back, take another pass at another incarnation and see if I can get the flavor to match.
(The Recycle effect is costly for a reason, I'd add. I've been playing around with an Animar, Soul of Elements EDH deck which uses any combination of Glimpse of Nature, Primordial Sage, Recycle and Future Sight to cast hordes of mostly-free creatures and keep drawing into more creatures.)
wait, I just remembered how expensive Primordial Sage is. Increase cost.
Well, Glissa is more colour-intensive than this, and also gets the Legend discount, which has been a known (if unpredictable) phenomenon for longer than mythics have existed.
Created for Challenge # 027. Unrelated hybrid symbols in costs just look ugly to me. A cost like (2)(gu)(wb) or (gw)(ub) looks horribly scattershot. The solution? Add the bridging hybrid symbol in-between, so (gw)(ub) becomes (gw)(wu)(ub).
This can be cast in
,
, or
; and I think it works in all of them.
Also suggests I'm WAY overcosted. Stupid broken mythics.
Created Selkie Soulbreather. Musing more about what bugs me about unrelated hybrid symbols led me to create Anthem of Progress.
Naturally, the "draw a card" spell is... everything but blue?
Reminds me of how in Shards of Alara, all the best burn spells were green. Naya Charm and Branching Bolt didn't actually have the green mana contributing the "burn creatures" bit, but nonetheless, draft decks that wanted to play them needed green mana!
Heh. Yes. Voracious Cobra and Glissa, the Traitor have both done this before, and it is indeed an evil card. (Glissa somehow pretends that black occasionally gets first strike.)
Is that meant to be "The next time you would discard a card, instead draw a card", or "The next time you discard a card, draw a card"?
I like the idea of an Incarnation of Trust, but I'm not sure I see that in these abilities.
Got there. Knowledge Dump.
Ha! For Challenge # 027. Cascade feels natural for Hybrid, since it only ever appeared on gold cards. Why not give it a mechanic that feeds into caring about color then? I'm assuming that these buggers are part of a cylce of probably 10 cards. They encourage 5 color decks... but... to get maximum value out of them you can probably swing 3 colors and pick and choose a few. Still, they almost automatically trigger each other, which works out great. Who doesn't want to cascade into cascade while getting bonus rewards for doing it?
For Challenge # 027
Look! Black gets artifact destruction! As long as white or green are involved too :)
Actually wasn't able to come up with a third.
For Challenge # 027
Boring one; slap on the shared keywords.
both get deathtouch,
both get first strike.
The resulting creature really REALLY needs shooting. Like now. Or even sooner. So I made it cost a lot. Possibly printable at cmc3, but given it's still pretty castable for a CD, I thought I'd play safe. Also, yes, there really is a gold scorpion, and it's real name really is deathstalker.
Am realizing that this thing goes a little nuts when you activate it multiple times. Upped the cost from one colored mana to two, and crossing my fingers in hopes that's still close to fair. Probably busted.
