Well, it technically encourages all the players to have sucky decks. At which point they lose to the Archenemy when the effect never goes off (which is most of the time). Doesn't really sound like a strategy.
What it does encourage is your friends to have silver bullets to take on your deck with, which sounds kind of funny. I approve of a player tossing a Aether Snap in their deck because they aren't sure if their friend is really their friend.
3 is probably where you want it. Having played the World of Warcraft TCG Instances, I can tell you that having the boss monster/archenemy constantly reset the board is super, super annoying. It makes you feel like you should stop playing the game, or just pack your deck full of direct damage. While 6+ casting cost sorcery is probably a good guideline for powerlevel for schemes, if it's a global effect it should probably sit closer in casting cost to Flamebreak.
It was, however, supposed to be fun. After the first few times this happened, I'd probably remove this card from the stack. Still a solid idea, though. "Lose Two Life: Deal 1 damage to creature or player." Would probably get this idea across, still be potent, but not end the game unless you were ending the game.
Thanks!
As a side note, does it seem to anyone else like Wizards "tests out" new illustrators on the multiplayer products?
Into the Earthen Maw. Huh. Also a group (sort of) of three. Way to notice the pattern.
As is, this encourages you to make your deck suck.
Yeah, definitely. I think it makes sense there's overlap in "destroy N permanents" (there's at least one other as well that eats a flying and non-flying creature and something else) since there's so many possibilities and it's something you're happy to have multiple times in a game. But I didn't want to overlap so much the card felt pointless :)
Thanks for fixing the grammar :)
The idea was, they THINK they've been attacking the bad guy, but actually it was just a stooge and the bad guy is someone else entirely. But I agree it's not perfect.
I'm trying to figure out how this fits the flavor of the name. It should be an ongoing scheme that puts a player on your team, or takes control of him/her.
Added accent. :)
You know, Tooth, Claw, and Tail and All Shall Smolder in My Wake are rather similar.
Awesome name for it, though :)
I'm worried this is too much less good than the "destroy three target permanents" scheme, and wondered about making it scalable somehow, but it feels right as is, and surely this would have to cost 6+ as a sorcery, so must be in the right ballpark.
For Challenge # 026.
It is legitimately hard to find space not already explored by Archenemy already. I haven't really succeeded, because there is overlap with Dance, Pathetic Marionette and My Wish is Your Command, but this does function differently.

cmeister2: Ah, good idea. I'd discarded the idea of "any damage" because it was possible to turn it off instantly, but at end of turn means you still get good use out of it.
How about "When you're dealt damage, abandon this scheme at end of turn"?
V: I don't know. Any landwalk, unblockability, or if you're unlucky just a simple flyer could pop the bubble.
Mmmm... yeah, needs some other way to get rid of it, otherwise you just sit behind an army of utterly invulnerable blockers and sneak through a few utterly unblockable attacks and win in a slow and boring way.
Created for Challenge # 026.
I considered weaker versions (protection from everything forever is a bit much), but decided to write the coolest version.
More sensible alternatives might be to limit this to attacking creatures, or give creatures protection from everything except combat damage so at least you don't have an eternal blocker, or make this just last one turn.
Created for Challenge # 026.
Of course, if this is your first scheme, you can take out an opponent in one shot -- but Archenemy was never supposed to be fair :)
