I like this idea, but I think it goes toward showing that there almost has to be a cost to making a 1-drop Timmy card. Here, it's all the turns you have to wait.
I do like how this illustrates that Timmy doesn't care how often something awesome will happen, or how likely it is to happen, but only that it CAN happen.
I know what you mean, but I don't feel Timmy hates ALL drawbacks. I think she's very conservative about giving up something she perceieves as hers: eg. would never want to pay life instead of mana, or would want a cheaper creature in exchange for being vulnerable to suddenly getting hosed by a rare bad luck. But Timmy is known not to worry that much about mana cost or card advantage, and I think this is similar.
I think the Timmy who says "I can attack for 2 on turn 1? COOL!" is a DIFFERENT Timmy than the Timmy who says "A 7/7 trample? COOL!" But I think it's still driven by excitement of when it goes right.
I agree the card is very Spike too, but I think Spike is more worried about "If I draw one of these, I've hosed my turn 2", etc.
Realized there was nothing red about this guy.
I agree, I'm not sure this is a very Timmy card.
This card would benefit from something like: "
: Put a time counter on ~.", which would bump up its playability but would go against the spirit of the challenge.
Nice.
I think this is a "hidden cost" like jmgariepy was talking about. I also think this is spike. Timmy, in my opinion, hates things that blow up if you don't constantly manage them.
Timmy says "PRETTY!" Johnny says "Interesting..."
I made another attempt with Noble Aspirant.
For Challenge # 044... but again, it's more Johnny than Timmy.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm almost a pure Johnny at heart. The little bit of Timmy in me isn't enough to help me make cards for him on purpose.
I realize I could play around with the numbers a bit. Remember, though, that this not exactly like Ludevic's Test Subject; with that card you invest a bunch more mana into flipping it (a total of 12 instead of 1). So, if they kill it right before you transform it, you've lost a lot of time. I'd liken this card a lot more to Durkwood Baloth, except much bigger but more vulnerable and there's no way to hard-cast it.
Simple, but elegant. The exact kind of 1-mana card Timmy could get into. Great design!
Also Blade of Ascension.
For Challenge # 044
I was originally going to make a more complicated equipment that gave some giant bonus for doing 5 or more damage to an opponent. But when I wrote the first line, I decided this was interesting enough. It's not very Timmy, but I think it appeals to Timmy sensibilities.
Thank you!
Faaascinating. Nicely done.
Hmmm. There are quite a few cards that make the top card permanently revealed: not just Field of Dreams, Psychic Network and Yet Another Aether Vortex, but also Lantern of Insight and Wizened Snitches. I fear it is a bit too good with those (and a bit too bad without it). It's somewhat more of a Johnny card than a Timmy card.
Bwahahaha. Yes, a very nice reminder that "Timmy" doesn't have to mean "giant monsters". I love it.
For Challenge # 044
Auras plus lifegain plus only helping when you're already doing well, what's not to like?
OTOH, this isn't bad on Serra Ascendant, Mourning Thrull or Vault Skirge :)
This is by far the simplest I've made, but perhaps the one most in the spirit of the challenge :)
For Challenge # 044.
Is this too good? It's potentially "discard a card every turn", even locking them out of any future draws. But that's really unlikely unless you have a combo. (It may be playable if you name the card you're most scared of every time.)
The biggest problem is combo'ing with cards that let you look at the top card beforehand. I nearly had them shuffle their library, or let them pay N life to avoid the effect, but decided that was too annoying when you weren't cheating. I think the combo is not too strong: it's obviously "win the game" if you get it right, but most of the time you'll assemble it too late, when the opponent already has some removal in hand.
