Recent updates to Multiverse Design Challenge: (Generated at 2025-05-22 17:56:26)
Created for Challenge # 044. It'd be fine to treat this as an uncommon with only the first line of text. At that point it's similar to Slith Firewalker (both attack on turn 2 as a 1/1).
It's probably a bit too much better than Stromkirk Noble. But the second and third abilities are meant to evoke the same feeling as Figure of Destiny, which had a lot of Timmy appeal as well as being popular with Spike (and even somewhat with Johnny).
Created for Challenge # 044. I wanted to create a version of Goblin Bomb that was 1 mana, because that seemed like a great Timmy card to base an entry on. But along the way I found myself making enough changes that this is where I ended up.
The top of library restriction is because people prefer dealing with cards on the top of their library to flipping coins. To Timmy, both feel equally random and this one doesn't need extra equipment. To Johnny, the top of the library is far more easily manipulable. But the Johnny appeal is somewhat incidental to this design.
I think Timmy probably prefers Krosan Drover to this, because he imagines getting three of it on the table: in that case he can cast all his big things really cheaply in one turn!
But nonetheless this is an interesting card. I think Link is just a bit too good at finding Johnny answers to things ;)
Yup, I agree with everything said here.
Very nice idea, indeed. Reminds me of Cloudreach Cavalry, but far, far cooler.
Nicely done. Could probably be rather fewer than 10 turns; compare with Ludevic's Test Subject.
Yeah, I'd definitely like this if I wanted to be splashy but cheap :)
Oh, also, this probably shouldn't be a Dragon itself, right? Probably something like a Human Knight like Griffin Rider?
Right on target. I've played too many games with Llanowar Elite, but never got the kicker. I didn't really care, though. Could you imagine if I kicked that thing? It would have been crazy!
Tough. I can see why Timmy likes this card, but Johnny should love it so much more. I mean, it randomly gives him resources to play with throughout the game. Johnny really doesn't care if the opponent is getting the resources too... Johnny isn't here to win the game...
But the mini-game of "Who gets the creature" should make Timmy happy. Assuming he isn't annoyed with remembering to activate this card during his upkeep...
It's true. I assume there are many Timmys who toss copies of Fork and Twincast in their deck with nothing to Fork or Twincast. They only pack them to see what they can snag. Why not reward them?
Yeah, this looks exactly like a card Wizards might print, actually. :) And Timmy would love the idea of copying anything cool his opponent might do "for almost free!!". It's the kind of effect that Timmy would pat himself on the back for putting in his deck even when it's usually not going to end up being as great as he thinks, because every once in a while it's going to be AMAZING and he'll tell all of his friends about it, and he'll forget all the games where it didn't do much.
Actually, this might be pulling a bit into Johnny's territory. "Make a deck that scales up to 8, casts a 7cc card, then forks it" seem right up his alley...
Yeah, but any infinite combo based on first casting a CMC 7+ spell and then paying more mana to copy it in the same turn can't be an actual competitive deck.
I like it, yeah, this is splashy but not strong, that's just right.
Hmm, I think these days they usually go with "gets +4/+4" instead of manually setting p/t whenever they can. Otherwise, though, it's an awesome card! Great idea. :D
Buhhh... warping multiple times becomes, annoyingly, a less timmy and more "Hah, I can slowly deck you with this really really slow infinite combo" trickiness.
Mocking Flattery, similar to Cymerdown's Echoes of Power
For Challenge # 044.
I had this idea just about simultaneously to Cymerdown's Echoes of Power. But it seems possible that this simpler version could be costed at R as well. Lots of cheaper/repeatable copy effects have targeted spells you control, which I think makes sense, as that's normally more useful, but also less swingy.
Whereas this is usually not that useful as the opponent probably won't be playing the spells you need. But on the occasions where they play fireball for 10, it will be spectacular. And I don't think the cheaper cost makes that much difference; if you're copying something really expensive, you probably have enough mana to leave Reverberate mana up anyway. I think this is probably still too cheap, but still not that strong for non-optimists :)
Made for Challenge # 044. Had trouble coming up with a good white card for this challenge... after thinking for a while, I came up with this. Timmy would imagine the situations where he'll win several flips in a row, and then do something big with all the mercenaries. This may end up being too good at
with Honor of the Pure and the like around, though, so I'll try to come up with something a little better tomorrow.
For Challenge # 043, I went with the space of "Flavour, lots of flavour" and "Is impressive if you're doing cool stuff"
I was actually just going to have "Protection from creatures", but what the heck. He's creature type dragon, after all.
Hmmm hard. We want something that screams "Yes! Yes! look at me! Whee! Look ma, Ma! NO HANDS!" but only costs 1, and presumably isn't allowed to utterly break the game; though technically that wasn't stated in the challenge so I could suggest reprinting an eldrazi at cost 1 ;)
There's a whole space of "This is impressive under {condition}" ... yeah; why not, let's go for that. Dragoneer.
