Hmm, it's sort of like a mashup between a borderpost and a signet. Interesting. Seems pretty strong.
Maybe the cards to base it on are Jagwasp Swarm, Snapping Drake, and Assault Griffin? Red hasn't got precisely that, but it gets Furnace Whelp which is comparable (and Firewing Phoenix at rare which is rather pushed).
2007 takes me back. That's the year I graduated high school. I had never even played Magic back then...
I really like the concept of your cycle. Looking at "what's missing" is my favorite way to design four color cards, and I don't usually like the results when I don't use that method.
Ah, but this dodges Final Judgment and Chaos Warp, which Fool's Demise does not. Doesn't Fool's Demise seem off-color to you, anyway?
Added Collaboration.
For Challenge # 064. Another way to look at CDEF is to focus on what's missing. I didn't want to lead with this design since this is an old card for me. I designed it and a cycle of four other avatars for a set I made back in 2007 or so codenamed 'Geraldo'. The cycle include:
I kind of like this card. Though, the more I think about it, the more likely I would be to play with Fool's Demise... this is one of those cases where speed isn't more important than being able to reliably cast the spell (granted, I know this is an enchant permanent... I just assume I'm probably going to put it on a creature anyway). Funny how blue happens to be the one color you aren't using.
I've added Eternal Reincarnation and Omnipresence.
For Challenge # 064. Bam.
Added trample. Why not?
I find it pleasing that the
replaces the white mana symbol.
For Challenge # 064. I don't think this is my best four-color design, because I went about it the wrong way. Instead of thinking deeply about the colors, I only thought about the fact that I wanted to try to make a four-color aura. I think this could easily trade red for blue, although I do think red is a slightly better choice.
Yeah, its close, but too far the other way; not so long ago NO colour got 1CMC 1/1 flying. 1B and 1R 1/1s are a bit too bad, but are printed occasionally. B and R ones are too good, but maybe we'll see them eventujally.
Jack.
I was wondering if just (?) for a 1/1 flyer would work; but Bog Imp says no.
Yeah, it's a shame the really simple creature is below curve, I really want something that can be the iconic anti-grizzly-bears. But
2/1 flying is still too good. Is there any way simple version which would fit a reasonable curve (even though UW is better than BR).
Oh, good idea on removal. How about "Target creature gets +1/-1. If it would die this turn, you may put it on top of it's owner's library instead?" That way it can either be a kill spell that sets back the opponent, or a pump spell that gives you another use of a good creature.
Or maybe that two-mode spell is too complicated. The trouble is, WUBR all mess with creatures somehow, but there's almost nothing they all do.
