Added Tahrngarth, the Hunter.
For Challenge # 075 based on Tahngarth for the Weatherlight Planeswalker Project.
I know Link said that he didn't like Planeswalker who had non-loyalty based abilites, but some flavor-based planeswalkers just really want to do certain things. Tahrngarth really wants to hit you. When it's obvious that that won't work, he changes strategies, and hits you harder. He's got to be a miserable first mate.
Gerrard: Hmm... that trading vessel isn't responding. Suggestions?
Tahrngarth: I suggest we ram them, sir. Then while they're still gaining their bearings, we board their ship, beat them up and take them prisoner. Before interrogating them, though, we should unmoor their ship and sink it, so that they lose hope of escape.
Ertai: Or we could fire a warning shot. What is wrong with you?
This is very clever... especially since the triplets do have a number of abilities locked into their wording. It's possible that the three together on the battlefield might be too confusing to be fun... but I figure the players who do like to out-puzzle the puzzle will enjoy these.
I really like this card too. That said, I have a different problem with the middle ability. Seeing how hard it is to kill this planeswalker, you would think it would be a no-no to have the planeswalker kill small creatures. But, again, 6cc planeswalker. Maybe covering all your bases is a good idea.
Hmm. Well, Planeswalkers are supposed to feel like they don't belong in the set they're printed in. That being the case, you would think that a few of them would feature more off set keywords. That said, when is Teferi going to rise from the dead and get his spark back? I'd love to see the grimmaces on people's faces when phasing is brought back for one card. :D
Heeeee. Delightful.
Use the +3 from [Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker or Karn Liberated, and then the ultimate from... wowee, I can't even choose. I love it.
Garruk Relentless says "transform", which isn't evergreen.
Man, this is wordy. Given the vanillaness of the original, I wonder whether this could cope with 2 abilities rather than 3?
Clever playing with the form. I'm not keen on the middle ability destroying lands, but I guess you have just cast a 6-mana mythic planeswalker, so fine.
This is inherently rather harder to deal with than most planeswalkers: you have to attack it for enough to take it down or else it'll just blink out. That, again, may be fine on a 6-mana gold mythic, though. (And actually, on second thoughts getting it to blink is quite a fair consolation prize because it means you've gained a turn's respite from the other abilities.)
I fear Obzedat, Ghost Council is a stronger card: it's one cheaper and it dings the opponent for more life. Weirdly, for the Orzhov leader, Obzedat is actually a really aggressive card, where this is much more controlly. Which makes more overall sense with what Orzhov do.
I fear on a mythic the lifedrain might not be enough. This is actually less efficient at draining life than the unmemorable Agent of Masks. Perhaps it'd make more sense to take a cue from the Obzedat printing and make the -1 drain 2 life. It'd be painful to play against, to be sure, but so is Obzedat, and I'm not sure this is worth 6 mana otherwise.
Nice. All looks sensible to me.
I made Meretta, Sen Firstborn, Arilla, Seeker of the Sen, and Denora, Sen Mediant, based on Sen Triplets.
For Challenge # 075, based on Sen Triplets.
For Challenge # 075, based on Sen Triplets.
For Challenge # 075, based on Sen Triplets.
I thought about that. Bushido is simple enough that I could write it, but that would hurt the flavor. Realistically, this wouldn't be printed due to other issues, so what does one more matter?
My problem with this is that planeswalkers avoid mentioning non-evergreen mechanics.
Very nice. I like this a lot.
Vesuva, Patron of Vesuva
For Challenge # 075, based on Vesuvan Shapeshifter and Vesuva.
OK, this is stretching a point, as there's not a specific character named from Vesuva, but for a place with only three cards, it's pretty iconic, there must be unique characters from Vesuva.
I debated whether this should be more like Myr Welder or Experiment Kraj or Vesuvan Shapeshifter, but I decided to go with what worked with the flavour best, and decided Vesuva was the most iconic "copy" flavour, even if he/she's levelled up to copy multiple creatures at once, but gaining abilities of planeswalkers in graveyards gave you the best chance to assemble an interesting combo.
And this way, we have the least wordy planeswalker ever -- maybe we could even have some flavour text :) Maybe it would be better if the ability were framed as a traditional loyalty ability, but it's sad that he/she'd have to wait several turns to get an interesting combination.
Oh cool! I was trying to think of a planeswalker version of Isamaru, but it just didn't work.
For Challenge # 075, based on Isamaru, Hound of Konda. This ended up being really wordy for a vanilla creature. The second ability is inspired by the original flavor text, while the ultimate basically summons Takeno, Samurai General to lead your troops.
Isamaru, Guardian of Kamigawa
I chose 12 damage because the original card only had three abilities and one was "attack for 12" :) I agree something like "devour target plane and everything on it" would be more eldazi-like, but only if I can think of something equally simple, I like the way this is splashy with less than 20 words total across three abilities.
