For Challenge # 078 Random CMC was 3. (from the 0-8 range)
And I wanna do triple-lightning!

: As an additional cost to cast ~, discard two cards.
Deal 3 damage to target creature or player.
Deal 3 damage to target creature or player.
Deal 3 damage to target creature or player.
But no, best not to. For 3 mana you get 3 damage and an upside nowadays (e.g. Annihilating Fire), or 4 with a downside (e.g. Arrows of Justice)
Creature damage is cheaper - black gets "Just kill it" at that cost, on creatures. Green and blue, of course, just get shafted for burn.
Colourless? Wel,l you get the, um, kinda not usefully colourless at all Ghostfire dealing 3, Moonglove Extract dealing 2, and lots of 'repeatably deal 1'.
Now, white- iconically, gets Reverse Damage - and also gets to punish creatures in combat, and redirect damage (e.g. Zealous Inquisitor)
So. This seems like a good combat trick to me.
Huh. Shame you can't abuse trample to get that effect.
Turret Ray at 1R.

Also changed this spell from an instant to a sorcery. It's scary good enough without having someone pulling this out of nowhere. At least this way your opponent has some sort of warning.
Seems like a better application for the type of card I wanted. I more stumbled across this, and decided it was a neat idea that fit the challenge.
Oh, cool. That is interesting. Although I wonder if "redirect Blasphemous Act" will overshadow other uses.
Maybe you could have a creature with "
: Change the target of target spell or ability you control"?
Made Rejigger Damage. I'm pretty sure I cheated, since the card isn't strictly a burn spell... but I'm fond of it, so it stays.
Challenge # 078 is easy. Making something interesting is much, much harder. I figured that this riff off of Reverse Damage fit the bill. I always wanted to have a spell that let me go "No, on second thought, I want to deal damage to that creature instead."
Volcanic Screwdriver at

Go to: http://www.random.org/integers/?num=1&min=1&max=5&col=5&base=10 and get a random number between 1 and 5. Design a burn spell with that converted mana cost.
Or if you feel adventurous, go to http://www.random.org/integers/?num=1&min=0&max=8&col=5&base=10 and get a random number between 0 and 8 and design a burn spell with that CMC.
Repeat as often as you like.
Fun. Created Leader's Blessing.
Created for Challenge # 077. The reminder text is partially that from Tenth Edition, as seen on Fear, but I could easily see an Alpha card having that kind of text. (It'd probably be rules text rather than reminder text in Alpha, I suppose. Ah well.)
The idea of course is that in modern Magic this is an Aura that doesn't actually affect the creature it's on, but rather gives you the ability to pump any creature; while in Alpha rules this is how Blessing was written.
This creation was probably inspired by some searches I did a few years back looking for cards which get much better with R&D's Secret Lair.
Trying to come up with name and flavour text that could work for either of the completely different mechanics was quite tricky :)
No, I think this is quite a success :) A beefy creature by standards old and new.
(And yes, green fatties have powercrept enormously. See Terra Stomper and other 8/8s for 6 with upside.)
Mana Echoes that triggers on combat rather than ETB. Nifty. Powerful... more powerful in 1993, but the things you can cast with all that mana back then aren't. (Well, there's still Fireball.)
...Wait, I read this as "whenever a creature attacks", so it squared it. If it's just linear then that's fine.
Amusing. Nice take on it.
Oops. I hate it when I miss obvious interactions. I thought of it as mass removal spell, not a Soulblast.
...? Lame? "Win the game by killing my opponent" is lame? Mind you, it does need a lot of turns to set up, and the other abilities don't really build into it.
Ok, sure, you need to play an artifact and enchantment heavy deck to do it. That's hardly a hardship.
