Truth. I get the impression it would be a stronger card if it dealt 5 damage, and replicated itself for
.
It's more like a really really expensive to split fireball.
I made Seven Stars and forgot to add it here.
Rolled up 4 damage for 0. Okay. First made Ornery Arthropod which didn't really fit in the parameters of the challenge, so I followed that up with Fire Break.
My real entry for Challenge # 078 with 4 damage for 0. This seems like a good idea for a cycle, since the thought process is similar to Pact of the Titans cycle, but it doesn't force the caster to lose the game if he/she can't pay next turn. It just bleeds red mana away until they take a turn off and fix it.
My first thought was to do "Deal 4 damage to target player. This spell may only target players who've taken 4 or more damage from red sources this turn." which sounds cool... but I remember Fireblast. It wasn't fair, and I'm pretty sure that any attempt to make it fair, would make the card unfun.
For Challenge # 078. I rolled 4 damage for 0, and, while brainstorming realized the damage didn't need to be for the opponent...
That said, this card is clearly not a 'burn spell'. It was just a decent idea that I wanted to get out of my head. Time for the real 4 damage for 0 card.
Ooh... that's a really strong sorcery. I would definately play it alongside cards like Wood Elves as a sometimes sideways Curfew. That said, it doesn't look broken... and it ain't returning no titans... but it's an excellent way to sue for time, which red isn't very keen on. My mono-red Golems deck would love this thing.
I was thinking about it, but I'm not sure. I guess I'd need to see it tested. All I could think was "It's fair, since it's just the activated ability from Flamekin Spitfire. But that doesn't mean it's good. Is it good?"
As much as I love the idea of cards that make you deal the damage, this isn't the card to draw the line at... even if the kami can get weird like that. Edited and thank you.
Volcano Defences 6 for

For Challenge # 078
I got 6 damage for 6 CMC, and told myself I'd loosen up a little and consider things other than straight X damage for Y cost. But this seemed the simplest possible.
It's basically Comet Storm with fewer Xs, but I suspect some people will like it for that reason. It could just about be uncommon since it can't hit a player for more than 6, but I think it has to be rare.
I'm not sure how it compares to things like Bonfire of the Damned
Illusuory Fire at 5 damage for 1R.
For Challenge # 078
This time I got 5 for 1R. I toyed with some other ideas (flame slash plus one), but came back to the idea of bounce in red. We all know that bounce has to be better in blue, but is there any subset of bounce which could be more red?
How about, based on damage. Specifically, that it can bounce two small creatures or one medium-to-large creature, which is often better in a tempo match, but (as always) red is helpless against giant monsters?
Panglacial Ray at 1 damage for 3R.
For Challenge # 078
Taking Alex's example, I chose one number for CMC and one number for damage. And I told myself in advance that the damage had to actually be a relevant part of the card, and it had to be an instant or sorcery which would usually be cast without repeating it.
So, how to make 1 damage for 4 mana interesting? Welcome back Panglacial Wurm. I think this is fair. It's massively overcosted by normal standards, but there will always be times when that extra one damage, without spending a card, will be what you're desperate for. It might work slightly better at 2 damage?
Hahaha! Man, I'd be hoping for the tails :-S
