Mostly, I took some inspiration from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom for this one. I regret nothing.
Hey, I've seen this ability before somewhere! It's a good idea, it is. I especially like it in red, encouraging you to cast multiple spells right now.
Personally, I don't think it needs to be sacrificed since this supports red's flavor, and it's something green 'can't do'. Just carving out new pie space. Though, I do think it needs to at least cost Sisters of the Flame. Otherwise, the card is a Leaf Gilder plus in mono-red, and that doesn't seem right.
Vanguards like Hanna were my other inspiration. Those have several numbers you can tweak; perhaps these would need something similar.
One problem with these is that if they get bounced, or killed as a creature then returned with Eternal Witness or whatever, you can't cast them. I thought it'd be better to keep the mana cost field empty as a cue that you don't need to cast this, but it does mean there's no benefit at all to having multiple Champions, which is perhaps a problem financially (from Wizards' POV) and leads to feel-bad moments in Sealed when you open two or three of them.
Ooh, yes, this works very well for a very hard combination of challenges to fulfil! I think it does need some more tweaking, but I'm not sure what would work best.
Next I was given the challenge to design a rare from Dragon's Maze (Challenge # 070) that was an entire new card type (Challenge # 031). I came up with the champion type, with Emmara Tandris and Mirko Vosk as examples.

Ooh yay! Yes, this is a lovely rare, because it's big and stompy, but the flexibility means it's much more likely it'll be relevant in a variety of situations.
I misread this as "Skaargan Chargosaur" and now I think that should be the name, either of this or another dinosaur :)
Yeah, I agree "giant lizard" is usually wrong: giant is a type, not an adjective. But I think you could imagine a race concepted as giants AND dinosaurs, just about, like in DnD, a half-dragon half-giant...
Yeah, it's surprising how many combinations are either trivial, or not quite impossible but definitely a real struggle. I rolled Challenge # 052 + Challenge # 089 which sort of made sense, but I really struggled to think of an unplayable spell which became broken with a 5/5 body :)

I'm going to let the previous roll of #039 go, and roll again. This time I get: Challenge # 096 and... Challenge # 073! I managed to roll 73?! So I guess I've been given a triple challenge doozy?! The second pair for 73 turned out to be Challenge # 103 and Challenge # 106.
So that's... "design a dinosaur" which "has creature type Giant" and is a "hybrid-mana-only Ravnica guild charm". Okay. As triplets go that's not too impossible. Created Skaargan Charmosaur.
