Yeah. The other problem is that this could just be expressed with charge counters, which occurred to me after I made the card. I still think a one-shot mana that doesn't leave your pool makes sense... but it probably makes more sense as a sorcery, that adds

once. And it could sure use some counters in the token slot to help with the memory issues.
It's a shame, really, that Wizards doesn't take advantage of that token slot more to print occasional things the game could use. "One white mana in your pool." would make a pretty good token. So wouldn't "Doesn't untap during the next untap step." and "Pact of Negation trigger."
Hmm. Good point - thinking about all my W/x decks, about the only cases where Gilded Castle would have any drawback over Plains is when casting Batwing Brume or Pentad Prism or paying for Norn's Annex, and it's obviously much better for anything from Boros Guildmage to Orim's Thunder.
(Edit: Link has now removed the ability to tap for
, which makes it much more interesting.)
Oh yes, it's very similar. I should have seen Golden Castle, but I can't remember if I did (even the names are similar :)) I did something similar with Elvish Embassy.
Is Golden Castle too good? It seems like it's equally good to plains in most decks and better in any deck with multicolour cards. Is there another significant drawback I'm missing? It can't pay for non-spell non-permanent effects and off-colour activated abilities and a couple of other edge cases that (I think?) won't usually come up, does that count as sufficient drawback?
Golden Castle also inspired my flipped version Nantuko Ambassador.
This reminds me of Gilded Castle.
I did something very similar to the last line on Elvish Embassy, although I went completely upside. It's true, your version could, in principle, enter untapped and not be better than any basic land or the modern dual lands...
I think the trouble with this is remembering -- a couple of existing cards got away with it because they were really splashy, so it was natural to remember how much extra mana there was (if any), but this looks mostly like a small utility creature, I feel like it's going to produce "wait, did I save some mana" moments...?
Very cool. "Here, there's some power you could have if you want... Just a teensy little price, negligible really... Wouldn't you like to have this power?... If you don't use it this turn, I'll make the same offer next turn..." Very black :)
You know... that makes sense, too. Though, I assume it would make more sense in red.
or the reverse to emulate mana burn.
Also, Bubble Brood Witch.
For Challenge # 107. I wanted to make a mana that hurt you to use it, but the question that popped into my head was "Why wouldn't 'Lose 1 life' be part of the cost to add mana to your pool?".
So instead of just one mana, I added three, so the damage you take is based on the amount of mana you use. And since the mana just floats in your pool, it feels like it's taunting you to use it. Seemed appropriate.
Wheee. Awesome if you've got a Glimpse of Nature / Primordial Sage / Recycle.
Is that meant to say "Whenever you spend this mana on a creature spell" (linear in the number of creature spells you cast this turn)? Or is it a property that applies until you spend the mana (harder to get going, but quadratic for as long as you do)?
True, but the mana from the springcaller emptied at end of turn. Not tapping does make sense, though...
Mmm. Sakura-Tribe Springcaller's approach was to be a more decent-sized creature (and to not require tapping since you don't need it so much if the mana doesn't drain).
Another attempt to make up for my gaffe in Challenge # 107.
Tenderleaf Safekeep and Harmonic Resinator.
For Challenge # 107, to help make up for my submission gaffes. I'm kind of surprised this doesn't exist yet, to be honest.
I couldn't imagine this ability being tacked onto a 2 casting cost creature, so I tried to be friendly with the power/toughness, since I know this ability is a bit of a let down at 3. I mean, you know, Fyndhorn Elder. I don't know... maybe this would have been fine as a 1/1 for
.
I also thought to add this line to the creature:
"
: ~ gets +20/+20 until end of turn."
As an outlet for what you could do with all the excess mana you keep storing up. But it distracted from the focus of the card, so I removed it.
Heh. I kind of assumed you were going the opposite direction at first: "You can't spend this mana to cast white spells." That, admittedly, would be too restrictive. Or at least the life gain should be more?
Either way, I find the idea funny. Might I also suggest a land with a line like this?
: Add
,
,
or
to your mana pool. You may use this mana only to cast white spells, or activate abilities on white permanents.
Ancient Ziggurat suggests that this is indeed reasonable.
Shining Palace, a slightly-worse plains with a small bonus.
