I feel like dealing 10 damage to a creature for five isn't a huge deal.
Your probably right about people being confused and saddened by X spells with Cascade.
Heck, a 60-sift deck would be pretty bad. Perfect top-deck skills every turn? Ouch.
It's definitely a problem with sift. You might be able to rectify that by putting it on a different class of cards, but I'm not sure.

I find it odd that dual lands let you deal 10 damage to a creature for
with this card and give you a bonus spell. That's reason alone to sport 4x Ragged Veins in hopes you cascade into it. ;)
Man, I hate dual lands. Adding bonus types for the heck of it screws up the math.
Oh, also, it occurs to me that one of the cards this can cascade into in your deck... is another copy of itself, whiffing. Cascading into a cascade card is usually awesome. This card is such a let down when that happens...
Even though an X spell with cascade has an unambiguous result, I feel that enough players would be confused that it wouldn't be printable.
I said it before on your other sift card - cheap sift means "Ok, I kinda want this in an early hand" and negates the only disadvantage.
Which means you can effectively build a 20 card deck. Which is probably a bad thing to let someone do.
I'm a Vorthos, not a Melvin, but this card seems disjoint even with the great flavor.
