Hah, so much for my "Twin" naming convention from last time! If this was an artifact I could see it being something like a Statuary Twin or something, but as an enchantment... the flavour of self-animating enchantments is often quite nebulous.
So let's make that literal: it's a Cloud of Potential.
Compact of Valor
white Spirit Knight
Continuing on from last week's card, NTC #049 is another card that you can only play two of. Since it wrankled a few people that that card came with a tutor ability, but only tutored for one card, I made sure that this card played better in this mind space.
I wanted a pair of enchantments that could turn into creatures. But if I could make the first ability redundant, then that would let them be better creatures when there's two of them on the table (since the only thing the second enchantment is technically doing is turning them on.)
But what's this card's name? And also, what creature type is this?
I wish the ability was worded in such a way that it also sounded like it allowed two copies of this in commander... Oh! idea for a new design incoming: Llah, Hall of Mirrors.
Alex wins with Tenacious Twin this week. See you people in (((NTC #049)))!
The poll is up. Vote for your favorite name here!
It also reminds me a lot of squadron hawk: in principle this having two forever is different to having four, but I imagine they play similarly. White probably wouldn't get the ability to recur a creature with power >1 I guess.
Black has been overrepresented, in general (though, oddly for multicolor, only appeared on the 5-color multicolor card.) I'll have to put a ban on Black to even things out for a little while. ;)
Oh yeah, "twin" works well. Now I want something like "Orpheus and/or Eurydice" but I can't quite get that together in a name :)
Green got basically the same thing with Howling Wolf / Skyshroud Sentinel / Nesting Wurm in Masques block. Red also got Embermage Goblin in the same set as Avarax, Screaming Seahawk, and Daru Cavalier. Yeah, this ability has been all over the map.
"Only two" is an interesting mechanic, potentially, but I agree that this card doesn't look like it particularly needs the "only two" treatment. But since it has it, and especially since jmg suggests this could be a cycle, I think the name should lean heavily into the "only two" thing. Twinned, Paired? Sibling? Bifurcated?
Let's try Tenacious Twin, type: Human Rogue. It could easily have a Zombie flavour but I like this take more.
Can we have a nonblack card next time? I don't like coming up with flavours for black cards.
Endless Skeleton
So the main mechanic here seems sort of like it belongs in the Nether Shadow [Nether Spirit Nether Traitor Nether Rutabaga] cycle.
But actually since it's etb->hand rather than ltb; the matching cards are mostly red - Avarax Chandra's Firemaw - though every colour seems to get one ( Daru Cavalier, Screaming Seahawk ) except for green. Green gets a lot more hoop-jumping variants and "Fetch a named companion" but no fetch-an-exact-duplicate-on-etb. I don't think that's a limit, just none yet.
So I don't think the main mechanic actually helps me name it much. And the second is the annoying self-unsummon ability. Which is so very nearly a great combo with the first ability? But since you're limited to two in deck, only really lets you have a really expensive way to regenerate. "

: Your otherwise vanilla 2/3 turns out not to be dead after all. Feel proud."
Eh, in a set with a lot of ETB or LTB triggers, this could be sneakily more powerful.
I guess I'll stick with my first instinct. This is a spirit and we'll on-the-nose it as a Nether Blink
Welcome back to Name That Card! Has Magic done the 'only two cards' thing yet? This seems like a logical choice to me. Seems like cycle material, too.
But what's the name of this card? (and what's it's creature type?)?
Alex wins this week with Ob Nixillis' Persecution. See everybody in (((NTC #048)))!
We got two responses, time to get voting! Click here for your favorite choice!
So the pre-existing concepts for this kind of effect have names involving unpleasant dreams/visions, foolishness (as per Jack), fate unravelling, tyrrany, a parasite, and a couple of dudes who attack your mind. What I'm gathering is that there's space for lots of concepts here :) This one allows you a way to avoid the damage, at a steep cost.
My first thought is Wilful Ignorance, though that is quite similar to Jack's.
Alternatively, something with "Persecution" in, except... it needs something more... Ah, of course, put a name to it. Ob Nixilis's Persecution.
Idiocracy.
Welcome back! This week we have a card that's vaguely reminiscent of Underworld Dreams. Except it lets you double down on the life loss at the expense of locking you out of a draw step.
Unlike a lot of black enchantments, the owner can stop this at any time to draw a card. That doesn't make you lose two life, btw. Annoying that some players might imagine it does, but the reminder text would have been groan worthy.
So worst case scenario, this is a sorcery that says "Target player loses 2 life. Draw a card." Best case scenario, you play this card on round 4, 5, and 6, and your opponent doesn't have a good offense. You can't skip your draw step thrice!
But what is this card's name?
The two finest words in the English language. Dee! Fault!
Vitenka wins this week. There wasn't much in the way of competition, but I blame the fact that this design was "a lot of rules experimenting and a nasty broken interaction."
See everybody in (((NTC #037)))!
Only two entries this time around, but I could still use your help determining a winner. Choose your favorite name here!
I can't do better than Vitenka's flavour.
I propose: Mind Demons producing Spirit
