"Discard a card: Draw some cards" being the rather more usual way of doing it - it knocks one form on the head, and makes the other form awesome. Which is kinda funky.
I don't see the difference between "blue filtering" and "Draw some cards and then discard some cards"...
It makies all of the "Draw some cards and then discard some cards" effects massively undercosted. Presumably, however, it also just completely prevent 'discard a card' as part of the cost, thus preventing massive blue abuse. (It does kinda kick blue filtering in the nads, mind you. They deserve it.)
It does seem strong, but since forcing your opponent to discard is black, and it's a non black, non artifact creature - well, it's not exactly going to be long lived.
It's interesting. It doesn't break with Avatar of Discord or Vexing Sphinx, it just kills them. Seems strong.
Reprint of Viashino Sandstalker. It help Wisdom, and I like how Hellbent players have to work around it to get Hellbent to activate. I felt bad for putting so many spellshapers in green, white and blue in Magic 20XD6, the expansion to Magic 20XX. But now that I've had a chance to reexamine the set, I can see many instances of red and black Wisdom cards poking through the grass, so it seems oddly balanced.
I have a cycle of 2cc "Knights" in 20XX in the common slot. For each color, I was able to find a 2 casting cost creature with protection from the opposite clockwise color on the wheel that made sense. Not blue, though. Well, not if you don't count Sea Sprite, and I wasn't.
The Riddlemaiden is probably the least powerful of the 2cc Knight cycle, and, simultaneously, one of the most efficient blue creatures that I know of. Weird. I don't normally give blue a creature that's on par with white... but something appropriate on occasion seems fine by me.
I like this guy, but I've watched him table in drafts. I suppose that can make some sense... he seems like a very reasonable 1 drop, but he's just an efficient body for a casting cost that some players ignore when drafting. I'm sure if I had tested constructed that this guy would rise back to the top.
What a monster this is in 20XX. I remember playing an opponent who slapped this down on turn 4 while I was playing black... I couldn't help thinking that I would have much preferred dealing with Wall of Light. Besides the obvious anti-discard silver bullet that this thing provides, and no discard at end of turn, it knocks out using discard as a resource, which 20XX is full of. It probably makes some card, where discarding as part of a balancing effect, go nuts... but that card and/or cards are currently beyond me.
Functional reprint of Kor Skyfisher. The ability is strong for Wisdom... I think I changed the name and creature type lines so that I could make it an uncommon and not feel bad. The fact that I squeezed another bird in the set doesn't hurt, though.
I don't think I have to go very far to explain why Hellbent likes Wonder. I do like it better in my set than in Odyssey block, however. It's a bit harder to get the cards in your graveyard in 20XX. Nothing as universal as Wild Mongrel. Levitation for free was always a bit buggy.
Hey, it's Monday! Seven new cards for 20XX. Today, since we have an understanding what's in the common slots, I figured I'd toss some random uncommons out there for a bit of spice.
Though, I must admit, this uncommon could have easily been a common. The next time I bump a card up, I'll have to remember that. Really, this card is just Quirion Sentinel for any color... and it really helps out odd 3 color draft problems... why ain't this in common?
I like to think that Kasib Ibn Naji in Phyrexian Walker's flavor text is being sarcastic. :)

Ha! I like it. I'd probably prefer it if it didn't obsolete Phyrexian Walker (one of the cards with the most ill-fitting flavour text ever). I like it a lot though.
Decided to make the card gain "Equip
" instead of reducing the cost to equip by 3. Much nicer.
On the flip side, unlike Shinobi Steel Whip, I haven't had any problems at all with this equipment, even though it's vaguely impersonating a decent rare In the Web of War. Maybe this would be a powerful card in constructed, but it's tricky to make this do what you want to do in limited. It's not terrible, but they do have a tendency to get passed around a bit late.
This card has been problematic. Common equipment that gives more than +1/+1 is tough to gauge at common, and probably shouldn't be done, since it can control games too easily. Add to that the fact that this card's 'drawback' sometimes is anything but.

originally, but that proved too strong. I can't remember if this compromise was good enough. While I've got problems with this card's power level, other players didn't seem to care. Some players enjoyed abusing it, and some didn't realize how good it really was. I suppose the only way to figure out if it was as good as I think it is is through rigorous testing.
I have a hard time imagining Wizards never stumbling upon this some day. Seems like a natural extension of Chromatic Sphere. Maybe a bit cheap, since it can screw up your opponent's on round 2? Maybe on the constructed level, but it hasn't really been a problem in draft. Let's move on.
