Recent updates to Link's Unplaced Cards: (Generated at 2026-08-24 23:03:31)
Um; I thought if it attacked then tapped it wasn't attacking any more? So not Wild Griffin but instead a flying defender?
I think "puzzle" cards are usually best kept out of common, at least.
headache Oh yes, of course. I totally failed to see the interaction of the abilities. That's really clever. (Although I think wizards would avoid printing it as is because everyone would get it wrong, though maybe that's just me.)
Hah! Amusing. Makes you do a double take. So it's your choice of a Wild Griffin or a Steadfast Guard... which makes me think this'd fit better in white (albeit with a different flavour).
I think it's equivalent to Vedalken Shackles or Harbor Bandit or Disciple of Kangee. You can cast them without blue, but there's really not much point. They all give blue effects to technically-nonblue cards, so this is fine in that aspect of the colour pie.
No, jmgariepy, that's pretty much the type of deck I had in mind. This would get very frustrating with lots of blue, and that was intentional.
On another note, I wonder if this is okay pie-wise.
Mmmm... true. But even then, various artifacts can give you card draw. It's only the multiple search that makes it scary/interesting. (Though I guess it's manybe too cheap for having both those options?)
Actually... combos with a single Island as a draw engine. I got to be honest, having thought of that, I would be more likely to build a deck with 8x Evolving Wilds and one Island than the sort of deck Link was probably thinking of.
Mmmm... Yeah; you're forced to tutor with all your blue mana every turn. Very easy to get yourself trapped; but very tempting to use it to search for your finishers.
Combo's insanely well with Awakening; Bear Umbra, possibly others.
Weeird card. Good in a white or black deck splashing blue. Not very good in a heavy-blue deck (which was what at first I thought you were going for, like an inverse Balshan Collaborator), because it makes you tap all your mana in your upkeep. So bad for a heavy-blue deck in fact that I could see wanting to Donate this to a monoblue opponent! They get extra cards, but they can't use any of their Islands to counter your spells! (Works against an opponent playing loads of Steam Vents and Breeding Pools too...)
I suppose so. It doesn't make sense from an English perspective... If I doing the targeting, then I'm controlling the effect. But that's got to be the way Magic handles the problem. All right. Carry on, then.
Why would you control it? If I have a Suture Priest and you play a creature, the creature's entering under your control but it's me who controls the trigger. For that matter, if I have an Essence Warden and you play a creature, the creature's entering under your control but it's me who controls the trigger. The same is true of Ley Line and Magus of the Abyss and Pandemonium and Death Match: it's always my ability that triggers, it's just that my ability offers you the choice of one of the targets.
@Alex: Wouldn't that be an ability you control, though, and not your opponent? Or is control dependent upon who controls the permanent the ability was manifested from? I actually am not certain...
The Essence Warden / Death Match combo took me a couple of tries to get, but it does work. The key is that the opponent controls the Death Match, but I control the Biomancer token so I choose the target for Death Match's triggered ability. Obviously I loop Biomancers a few million times.
The opponent would just target the Essence Warden... but the point is valid. I'm sure there are other more appropriate combos {Kyren Negotiations perhaps?)
This card also has some frenemies problems. Let's say I didn't necessarily not like an opponent at a multiplayer game (The Sheriff when playing Bang?) I'm going to get some serious value out of him/her when I play my Whip Sergeant. That situation's probably rare enough, though, that you don't have to think about it too hard.
If you combine this with Essence Warden against an opponent's Death Match, the result is a good time.
