Alright, I'm just goofing around on Multiverse. Time to get to work and get some submissions up.

Obviously, we haven't had a drive for mono-colored uncommon submissions, so I know some people will be confused why I'm asking for rare submissions. The way I figure it, though, if I ask for Rare, the Uncommons will cobble themselves out of things dropped out of common or rare. After that point, there's just some hole filling to do... and I'd rather do that after I saw what holes that needed to be fixed anyway.

Also, I want to work with Green first, because I think out of all the colors, this color had the most confusion as to what it's end game is. How important is bud? How do we evolve bud? What about this giant sunflower flavor... is that kicking around still? Are there lots of them, or just one Legendary one? This whole "equal to the number of tapped lands" theme... is it important? Are we keeping it? Is it more prevalent in the rare slot? And is it a fixed number like threshold, or is the number of tapped lands a moving target?

Anyway, I mostly just want to see cards that make me whistle. I don't think the set needs anything from mono-green rare... except for at least one card that costs {g}{g}{g}{g}{g} or more. And don't forget that manacycling exists.

Current list of Green Rares and Mythics already in the community set:

  • Hive Queen
  • Sporgantuan
  • Spreading Blossoms
  • Oh, and I should point out that Mycobrewery and Fungus Factory is the template for how we do Bud now. Just saving myself a lot of editing over here.

Ah, I've accidentally been away for a few days, but it seems nobody's added anything anyway. Okie doke. I'll see what I can add tomorrow or Monday, and see if that sparks conversation.

As green's main mechanic, I would say that Bud is pretty important. We should focus on the simple things to do with it in this set so that we could "evolve" it in (hypothetical) future sets.
As I originally conceived, there's only one giant "sunflower," and it was either a tree with a sun bound in its branches or a stag with a sun held in its horns.
I think the counting of tapped lands is confusing and adds an unnecessary complication, personally. If we keep it, we should probably unify the number of lands it counts.

The 'problem' with unifying the number is that it tends to be very swing-y (everything turns on at once). That said, if there aren't that many cards that feature that mechanic, then it doesn't really matter... the set can have a little swinginess.

Though, it does present a completely other problem: You can only do subtle, minor events, Useful utility events, or huge splashy events, since your stuck with a number like 5, 8 or 12. Let's say we want to unify the mechanic to say:

"As long as you control N lands, X"

    What number should 'N' be?

  • Ursine Veggies, added due to conversation in Bear Fruit.
  • Well, we've got approximately 13 submissions here and only 7 slots to fill, so this seems like a good time to see what we got, and see what we need if any.

First, I added Tangled Mass to the file, since a cycle of rare manacyclers just makes sense. I threw Glarrug in the Mythic slot because it's the only card that feels like a Mythic to me (Hive Queen feels like a normal rare in my mind. That's just my opinion, though... I could be off.) I can easily remove it. I also added Spreading Blossoms, because I like where the card's head is at, and it's nice to see some +1/+1 counter cards in rare that seem to have a completely other agenda.

That leaves four other slots. But I designed most of these cards, so it doesn't seem right for me to decide what should go in the file, also. Does anyone have any cards that they specifically would like to see in the file? Or would like to see changed, but added?

Oh, I also picked through the uncommon file to find some older cards that could be potential rares. That list includes:

  • Flawseeker, if we opened the card up to say 'non-token permanent'.
  • Green Variable Guy (which might require a little something extra. Perhaps an odd protection.)
  • Sunseed Hedgerow), though, it seems like too easy a way to get GGGGG. Who cares if it leaves an extra G floating? Personaly, I'd like to see if we can find a way to break it into two pieces of GGG, though I'm not sure how to do that. GGG now and GGG in the next step works, but kind of messy. Anyway, discuss the answer to that over there if you like.

Anybody have any preferences as to what goes in the file?
