Created for Challenge # 043. I figure if a Spike knows their opponent's deck and a good Spike knows their opponent's play style, then a great Spike knows their opponent's every move.
Spikes like to win by outsmarting their opponents. This allows them to use their being a step ahead to completely shut their opponent out of the game, and it even includes a wincon of its own.
Hmm, the problem I see Spike having with this card is that it doesn't have any immediate impact on the board. Spikes usually are looking for any expensive card they play to be able to dig themselves out of lost games. For example, you could put a 7-mana curse into play that says, "Enchanted player doesn't draw cards." Now yes, that's a pretty strong effect over a long game, but there are still some games where that won't help you because they already have a bunch of guys in play. For 7 mana, Spike wants something that has the potential of turning entire games around, like Karn Liberated or Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite. The other issue I see is, this card is usually going to be a net -benefit- towards the opponent against most smart opponents. They will play the whole mind game of "Well, my opponent thinks I will go searching for this card, so I'll get this one that's almost as good instead. But, he's probably going to think I'm going to think of that, so maybe I'll get this third card that is probably about as good, too." It's a fun mind game, but let's face it -- the majority of the time, they'll get to tutor for something decent and probability says you are more likely to guess wrong than you are to guess right, especially if you don't know the exact contents of their deck. Most Spikes will realize this, and then realize the card wasn't designed for them to use.
Yeah, this is "Whoever that guy is that plays Warp World hoping to hit Grip of Chaos", not Timmy.
Now, if it at least let YOU tutor... maybe. Even then, like my entry, it's probably too late.
