You could rephrase Rite of Replication using this new keyword action: "Multiply target creature. If ~ was kicked, instead multiply that creature five times." And Spitting Image's rules text becomes incredibly succinct.
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, Splinter Twin, and Heat Shimmer could use this terminology too, with riders saying "That token gains haste. At EOT, sacrifice/exile that token".
Very nice challenge! Really got me musing about what kinds of card I could put my mechanics on, which is great fun.
My entries are Protective Captain and Mirror Shards.
I suspect it's best to enter without reading other people's ideas, as the words are fairly suggestive; I suspect they'll clump into fairly closely grouped mechanical areas.
Created for Challenge # 012. Name is intended to slightly evoke Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker.
Power level is somewhat crazy. This should perhaps be 7 mana, but, well, so should most 6-mana mythics Wizards print... It's very variable. On a dense board, this is incredibly swingy, but on an empty board or one full of 1/1s it's not very impressive.
Created for Challenge # 012. Fairly aggressive stats, but comparable to Nagao, Bound by Honor. Could appear in white, blue, green, or even perhaps red.
Red/black as in Innistrad. I think "you choose" is ok in red/black, as red has "control the attack step" and black has "randomly screw you over with your own stuff".
I wished I could shave a few words off, but couldn't see how.
I made a common to put the reminder text on, as that presumably wouldn't exist at mythic (see Sorin Rampant)
I spent a while trying to come up with a new mechanic for this challenge, but it's quite hard. In the end I compromised and designed Resonant Canyon, which uses a mechanic I designed some time ago, but that's not been printed by Wizards yet.
For Challenge # 011. It's a bit like Primal Beyond, but niftier if you're casting multiple spells in the same turn. It's reusing the same mechanic I put on a Sienira's Facets card, In Tune with the World. I spent a while trying to come up with an entirely new mechanic for a tribal land, but this one seemed to be a good enough fit that I'm happy with it.
Camruth: I like the multiply effect.
@Calus: Good spot, I thought I'd made sure that I didn't duplicate any words, but evidently I failed. Given that Camruth has made a card based on Mutilate I'm going to leave it as is, though.
Good challenge. 1. Arc Spray
2. Sorin's Mutilation
3. Sorin Rampant
My entries are (((Avatar of Mutilation))) - a Mythic with Mutilate; (((Goblin Horde))) a common red creature with Multiply and I added (((Benalish Braveheart))) a Human Knight with Galvanize.
For eachkeyword I tried to come up with an ability that suited its flavor. Mutilate hands out -1/-1 counters when a creature (or other permanent) with it ETBs, which I feel captures the flavour nicely.
Multiply is also a creature ability, this one allowing you to copy the original creature at the start of your upkeep each turn by paying its multiply cost. I see this working best on "mob" creatures like Goblins, Insects, etc or on creatures that multiply by self dividing like Oozes, slimes, etc. That said, it can be applied to just about any type of creature with a little forethought (on Soldiers it can be flavored as the call to muster going out and individual soldiers reporting for duty in dribs and drabs, etc).
And yes, the token copies have multiply as well :-)
Galvanize is pretty straightforward - drop this & all your creatures have Haste this turn.
