For Challenge # 029
So, llanowar burned (the set I'll make next, maybe. I hope not.)
The future mechanic is pretty simple - this dryad can walk on lands in your graveyard.
Added Old Man Rabbit and Favor of the Moon. Old Man Rabbit sent me to a Native American world, which I explored, and ended up with Favor of the Moon. I'm not sure how.
Changed to common because... well... it probably would be in the world it came from.
For Challenge # 029. I originally wanted to have the word "or" between
and
, but Mulitverse turns 'r' into
. Assume that's the way it would be written on a real Magic card. This card pushes forward to a time past hybrid, where cards can have multiple costs, and there's nothing strange about it.
Also, I rather like 'Planar'. It solves a couple of problems that "Enchant - World" used to have. Enchant World was always a strong Vorthos mechanic, but was reviled by Timmy, since the card has an inherent downside. If my opponent has an Enchant World, then mine will blow up. Now, if my opponent blows up my Planar Enchantment, I have chance of redrawing it and knocking my opponent's Planar Enchantment off the table. It's not all upside, but it helps. The fact that it's a supertype and can be added to any permanent looks good to me as well.
For Challenge # 029. Reverse poison. In theory, the future block this card comes from would be full of cards that reward you for 'pulling stunts'. A lot of these stunts would probably require you to involve yourself in combat, since combat is where the game really interacts... but I assume that a fair number would involve intentionally leaving yourself open, and trying to survive until you've picked up enough "Trick Counters". Or trick counters might ask you to jump through some really odd hoops. Like giving a creature you control to another player, then regaining control of it. Originally, this guy gained you one trick counter, but, by it's lonesome in Future Sight II, that wouldn't be good enough. Two might be pushing it for it's own block, but seems fine without support.
Since I flavored this as 'trickery', I decided to use a Pre-Age of Exploration North American plane as the setting. Native American mythology is chock full of tricksters... in fact, it's probably one of the most unifying features of the myriad mthys. The creature type is another extension of Native American storytelling, and how characters in them seem to be animals, yet, seem to be human.
Hmm. I like the idea. I don't know how practical it would be. I suppose that if players were able to scan their libraries to see where the face up card ended up, then that would work out fine. You just have to not look as you shuffle your library. That would be a bit hard to enforce in a tournament... but, in theory, is doable.
Heh. I assume he can only block exiled creatures if he himself is exiled?
I made Knight of the Starlit Eye and Elfish Meddling, both of which require some rules changes.
For Challenge # 029.
For Challenge # 029.
Ok, note implemented.
Ashwalker Dryad and Sanctuary City
I know, I know... we kind of design "Future-Shifted" cards all the time. It's called designing cards. This isn't that, though. You're looking to press the boundaries of what is acceptable on a Magic card, while making sure the card is still playable. It has to fit into a modern Standard environment, and feel out of touch within the realms of modern design constraints.
Also, I added a small constraint that says that these must flavorfully come from the same world... but you wouldn't automatically guess that by looking at the mechanics on the card. Don't kill yourself over that restriction... I just didn't want to see "Mechanic X. Now an extrapolation on Mechanic X." This is supposed to be Future Sight II. We don't have room for extrapolations.
I suppose a real Johnny wouldn't be as intimidated as I am. I knew Giant Fan existed and discounted it. The trick is to reduce the cost of Giant Fan's activation, then find a way to infinitely untap it. I could come up with many ways to do that...
Sudden Spoiling is a nice catch... I suppose this all is doable, if you're willing to use Unglued. I forgive Magic... evidently you can do anything in this game if you put your mind to it.
You could animate Helix Pinnacle in two or three ways, then use Sudden Spoiling on it to remove shroud (after it already has some tower counters); then use Gilder Bairn and this guy to your heart's content, or perhaps Leech Bonder to put a tower counter on something else so make it easier to repeat in other turns; then another use of Sudden Spoiling followed by Fate Transfer to put them back. (The Sudden Spoiling could also be Lignify, in the first case attached via Simic Guildmage or Nomad Mythmaker or assorted other ways.)
So the only bit of your request that you can't do is turning loyalty counters into tower counters or vice versa. Apart from with Giant Fan.
I think http://multiverse.heroku.com/cards/9021#comment_18175 got left out of the list?
