LOL. Awesome.
I created (((Essencebound Hulk)))
Bolt from the Blue -- Suspend Disbelief
For Challenge # 065. I wanted to put something that either put illusions onto the battlefield, or bolstered illusions, but I figured the simplest execution would probably pull the idea across best. The feeling to this set is high mellodrama, and focuses on capricious 'gods' that refuse to allow something as simple as 'consequences' get in the way of their goals. Lots of Deus ex Machina effects thrown around liberally... most people assume the Gods must be crazy. I figured 'Suspend Disbelief' was the simplest execution I could pull out of that world. Players just won't die, even when confronted with ridiculous odds. Obviously, you have to be careful when putting the effect on too many cards... but really, it isn't much different than a bunch of expensive fog effects. If you play too many, then you will eventually lose... it's just a matter of time.
Forgot to say that I added Goblin Tag-Team
Added the double feature Sarducci Lawman -- Showdown & Far Strike
For Challenge # 065. If it isn't obvious enough, I'm half-referencing Soltari Lancer with this card. Sarducci just sounds like some odd spaghetti western creature type to me. I couldn't really riff off that word, so I asked Father Guido to give me some help. :)
I admit, that's a lot of reminder text. Those are two different new abilities, though. I originally had this as a common... but if a card has two new abilities from the set on it... wouldn't they make that uncommon? Okay, uncommon it is.
LOL! Involve is a perfect name.
Niiice! Trigger saboteur abilities without risking the saboteur in combat!
I intended it to be sort of the opposite of Haunt, in that the creature is exiled first, and then pops out.
For Challenge # 065. If your Involve creature gets through, it gets to bring a buddy along for the fight!
Amusingly, it ends up very similar to the ability it's a riff on, haunt.
Reminiscent of Accumulated Knowledge, Aether Burst, or Feast of Flesh. But if there are more than 2 or 3 cards with this mechanic the cost may need to veer sharply upwards.
True. I'd say a hunt mechanic should be "When that creature dies (good stuff happens)" on a creature that comes into play normally. Sorta like an inverse soulbond? Memory issues though, on pairing with opponents creatures.
Doesn't the Challenge say to make it different from the source mechanic? This seems superficially similar to haunt.
Perhaps Hunt creatures shouldn't have casting costs (or irreverently large casting costs) and you 'cast' them by activating their Hunt ability (Meaning this card would have 'Hunt
'). That way you can get rid of "If you would cast this, instead..."
Hmm... unforutunately, though, you may have had to trade that text with "Hunt only when you could cast a sorcery." At least it's at the end?
For Challenge # 065.
I know what I want Hunt to do, but I'm having trouble wording it concisely. It began as "If this would enter the battlefield, if it was cast, instead exile it hunting target creature. When that creature dies, put this onto the battlefield." This was far too wordy.
Then it was "When you cast this, exile it hunting target creature. When that creature dies, put this onto the battlefield." Much more concise. The problem with that and the current version is... if there are no creatures to target, what happens? I don't want you to be able to cast this without a target. Does that need its own line of text?
Also, I'm wondering if this should trigger off of dying, leaving the battlefield, or attacking and blocking.
I made March to Glory, Muffle, and Wealdborn Tracker.
For Challenge # 065.
There. Now it makes more sense. (Changed to hybrid casting cost).
