For Challenge # 066. I can't figure out a way to save Oblique Statue for now, but I can build off the idea. Workbench Glammer is supposed to work in the same universe as that card... an enchantment that wakes up, after being infused with life-magic, and capable of waking up its various little tools. It's not, not Simic... what it really is is a Selesnya card with a legitimate reason to hang out in blue-green, making it out of tune with that set's design.
Tricky. That first line of text isn't very Gruul. The second line of text reads very Gruul to me. A creature that turns my lands into creatures so I can attack with them? Gruul smash!
It seems like the only way to win this challenge is to find a way to do the exact opposite of what the Rav guild wants, yet remain in that guild's colors. Gamekeeper just runs parallel to Selesneya, it doesn't get in its way. That makes it 'printable' in Ravnica.
It certainly doesn't help the theme of Selesnya, though. If this could be a common ability (I know it can't. But if it were), I'd say this card would be guaranteed to be cut from the line-up, since it would get in the way of drafters. Maybe that's all you need to complete the challenge?
Huh. Okay. I'm not really sure where the white in this card is. Cloistered Youth was white for flavor reasons. I don't know many White/Black Efreets. Maybe it could do something that is other-detrimental to yourself, such as exile that many cards from your library?
Fair enough. It doesn't really seem like a stretch for Izzet to work with artifacts... they just don't. It's funny when you think about it... none of the guilds in Ravnica are the 'artifact guild'. Makes sense, since it would lop-side the artifacts of the set towards one-tenth of the guilds, and there isn't that many spots for the artifacts anyway.
I made Wall of Angelflame and Landscape Artist.
I like this. :-)
Reminds me heavily of a backward Alms Beast.

Hm. This ended up rather similar to my last GW card even though I started thinking from another direction. The logic is supposed to be that Selesnya is more about hive mind and crushing with big creatures, whereas this is more about punishment for transgressing the natural rules.
But honestly, again, it could perfectly well be Selesnya...
Etherium Repurposer... and later, Grudging Revenant.
I think generally white and black can exile anything they like from graveyards: Beckon Apparition is
and has been reprinted; Cremate and Purify the Grave are very similar grave-spot-removal cards; and black and white both have a bunch of mass graveyard-exiling too.
Hmm... But actually, there's a difference. Black gets to exile all of one player's graveyard: Haunting Echoes, Bojuka Bog, Ravenous Trap, Nihil Spellbomb. White has to exile all graveyards: Rest in Peace, Morningtide.
The only outlier is Identity Crisis. It feels to me like black is clearly exiling the hand, so the graveyard part must be white... but perhaps the white is just because it's exiling hand rather than just discarding it? Hmm.
By contrast, green's graveyard removal is almost always putting it back into the library. Serene Remembrance, Dwell on the Past, Gaea's Blessing, Loaming Shaman, Gurzigost, Memory's Journey (which along with Mnemonic Nexus and a few others shows that blue can play here too), etc. And white occasionally plays in this space too: Archangel's Light.
So perhaps the most obviously green-black form of this card is:
> Choose one: exile all cards from target player's graveyard; or target player shuffles all cards from his or her graveyard into his or her library.
"Stands behind the lines, cheering them on" - or, y'know, being eaten by them :P
This is indeed a pretty un-Boros RW card. The only niggle is that exalted evokes the knights of Bant to me, which have a faintly similar feel to Boros in the emphasis on military hierarchy, though the details are pretty different.
All true enough. Original Rav had Selesnya Sagittars, but that was more tying in with Selesnya -> elves and centaurs -> archers -> reach. This is not really very Selesnyan. It's a little reminiscent of Tangle Spider... in which connection I will note that the turn after this ETBs, it will confuse a lot of people that it no longer has reach. But white hasn't had reach since before 8th Edition. Tricky.
In fact, maybe just "Enchantment Creature -- Illusion" would be enough, without the extra abilities?
Thanks!
I didn't feel it was especially innovative, more like, there's really little overlap between B/G except in the graveyard :)
Hm, is there a clear breakdown how W/B/G divy up graveyard removal? I picked this because it specifically hosed golgari, but still allowed things like boneyard wurm, but I'm not sure if it's clearly a different colour to "exile all cards".
Hmm. Clever: play into the same space that the guilds do, but in reverse.
Also curious that this effect pretty much fits in black-green, but just "exile all cards from graveyards" is white :)
