Sorry I'm late to the party. Here are some cards: Titus Giantborn, Sleepytime Giant and Humpback Riders.
For Challenge # 096. Jack requested some off-concept Giants, and I mulled around for a bit, until I realized that I don't think I've ever seen Giants use mounts. Elephants seem reasonable, and Giants with Dragon mounts seems like the kind of awesome thing that a highschooler might perfect in his algebra notebook. But a Merfolk Giant crashing out of the water, riding astride a Humpback Whale sounds absolutely terrifying. I could see an entire culture built around these guys. Yup, yup.
Challenge # 096. Part of the problem with Giants, as far as tribes go, is they normally want to cost 4 or more, meaning you can't really pour Giants on the board until the game is half over. That's no fun when playing tribal, though, so I made a one cost giant, while trying not to really nerf it, or make the drawback revolting. Sleepytime Giant will be great on round 1, and not very great on round 7. If you're playing Giants the right way, though, you've got other things to cast on round 7 anyway.
For Challenge # 096. I wanted to make a 'Giant's Giant', i.e., something that would be gigantic to a normal giant. So yes, if it isn't obvious, Titus is so large that he can only interact with large creatures, and his punches are so lethal that they stun Planeswalkers. Make sense?
I don't think this works that well. "Giant" is evoked by being a 4/4, but I think you could make the effect bigger, too. Maybe choosing and discarding many cards, for example.
But it does depend on its intended rarity/splash, I guess. This could work as a common.
Oh, I like the design a lot.
It may be too good to get a card every turn, even if it's just a land card (and have too much shuffling). Could it work with top-of-library or similar instead?
Challenge # 096
Harvest Giant
Pink Room
It would probably have to be something like a Peacekeeper, or a Ghostly Prison, or a Moat, yes. But it occasionally might be worth it to hit a Visara the Dreadful or a Gisela, Blade of Goldnight.
I rather like that they can destroy planeswalkers. But then, unless they're very SMALL they can usually do that anyway. Which hits the main limit of this - do I really want to give up at least 12 attack power do destroy one thing? What the heck IS it that 12 power can't destroy it just by turning sideways and destroying its controller?
(Although- yow, vigilant giants mean you get to have your cake AND crush it.)
Still and all, "non-enchantment" is very much more flavourful; but even more red. (And mentioning it that way just made me think "Theros". I CRUSH YOUR PUNY GOD WITH ROCKS. RAGH.)
Cool. I'm always glad when critique actually suggests an improvement, rather than just criticising :)
The problem again is that I felt "why would a group of Giants be able to destroy other things but not a land?"
Well, why would they be able to destroy an enchantment? :) But yeah, I'm not sure. I don't think it's vital that white not destroy lands, I just dislike giving up any differentiation between the colours, just in case :)
"Commander" is indeed better in the name. It runs the risk of associating with Ambush Commander and Siege-Gang Commander, but that didn't stop them with Goldnight Commander, so yes, I'll make that tweak.
It's a good point about exile vs destroy. Mangara of Corondor and his friends (Archon of Justice, Krond the Dawn-Clad) are perhaps an even better precedent for this kind of effect. The problem is, for it to feel Giant-ish at all, it doesn't want the subtle flavour of exile, it wants the "squish and smash" flavour of destruction.
I did consider adding "nonland". The problem again is that I felt "why would a group of Giants be able to destroy other things but not a land?"
