I'm intrigued by the fact that Sahala doesn't seem blue to you.
Served up two for Sahala today Banished from Sahala and The Unending Tradition and another Pale One with Pallid Man-Gnasher. I must say it's interesting me getting into a white mindset from two-cards didn't disappear when going into the Pale Ones, which would be hard to characterize as white flavorfully.
See Challenge # 112. I didn't think I'd ever end up making a white Pale One, but it happened. I wanted to show a Pale One just eating anyone that ventured out into the wastes and came across it. I wanted the victim never to be heard from again. That brought me to exile which brought me to white (I considered red but red exiles after dealing damage).
Mechanically this ability is really threatening as it kills bounce effects. I don't know if it needs to be reworded but I also mean for it to perma-exile something that would be flickered.
See Challenge # 112. I see Sahala as W/G with opposition to R/B and U not fitting in anywhere. However, since we have free reign I like the idea of not binding each group solely to any set of colors, but rather the view of each city or group having prominence of some colors over the others. Anyway, since this card is so specific and blue wouldn't care about creatures having deathtouch this ended up going back to white again, so I didn't need to make it blue.
See Challenge # 112. This started as "anti-reanimator" for Sahala's adherence to tradition. It took an evil turn I didn't expect. I don't know if Sahala has any tendencies that would be considered dark or cruel like this card turned out. Anyway, so I started with "exile the graveyard" so it can't be used as a tool. Recurring instants and sorceries though isn't really dealing with the dead and recurring those to use them again could be following tradition, so I thought of the "cast only what shares a name with what's been exile" to show the idea of players fulfilling time-honored traditions at the expense of seeking out the new.
That's part of the challenge, really. Perhaps Sorrow could explain where he saw green.
"In response, I gift you my Stone Cold basilisk, and.. huh, what does that do? Ah right, now I'm turned to stone; so your blow fails to resolve."
Most convoluted way to prevent 4 damage ever? Or is Orrery + Form of Dragon + Ashnod's Transmogrant sillier?
Stone-Cold Basilisk, maybe? That's FASTER than instant speed :)
Now I want an instant speed way to make a player into an artifact.
Yeah, this is effectively lightning blast for costing purposes. I think that is like Lightning Bolt -- wizards wouldn't usually print it at common, but they might occasionally. But I probably should aim most of my common direct damage spells at shock-level not lightning bolt level :)
I agree this is more powerful than current common removal. But, y'know, it's less powerful than Lightning Blast which was common once.
I confess I don't see much green in Teruga. I see white, blue, and anti-red.
Reminds me of Bloodpyre Elemental. Having to use it when you cast it justifies being
cheaper.
Yeah, this is comparable to Flight of Fancy. Being much less useful as a creature vs Mulldrifter I think justifies the 4 mana price even at common.
Thank you!
Mulldrifter is a very popular card, and powerful top boot. This lacks a lot of that flexibility, but two cards is still powerful if you can flicker it.
I don't think it's powered down. Just more splashable. Very nice job meaning removal with a flavor that's just the opposite.
Haha. Great job. :-D
If Wizards priced this, it would probably be at

or something. I like it like it is.
Reminds me of Flanking but slightly less problematic. Nice flavor.
I like the name and the concept, but I feel like I want coin flip cards to do something positive on either side. If you call the flip wrong you'll really feel like crap on this one.
It's very nice, isn't it? I bet we could find some great flavor text for it.
This, I like. It fits the flavor of Teruga very well.
A little bit wordy. I feel that this would make more sense in a tribal-focused block, though.
I expected someone to represent that field somehow. Interesting card it would go straight in my Angus Mackenzie EDH deck. :-)
It is a very wordy challenge, by necessity. :-/
Jack V, I think it's awesome you've been inspired to make almost 30 cards (if I counted right). Keep going! It makes me think the challenge was a good idea. I'll try to find time to comment on each card individually. Of course, I encourage everyone else to submit their cards as well. I won't be making any, at least not for a while, since I made the world.
This challenge looks really interesting. But I started taking classes about a month ago, and it's absorbing, like, all of my time (which is why I was only able to squeeze one quick article out last month. My book is getting no traction.)
So, I'll be coming back to this later. I just don't want you thinking, Link, that I'm ignoring the challenge because this is all too wordy. I like involved challenges. I'm sure I'll like this when I get around to it.
Two more Rohn cards, Rohn Prima Donna, a 1/1 with intimidate, and Aesthetic Councilmember, an uncommon hitting the "keep semi-arbitrary artistic decrees" flavour. Also, Canyon Pouncer, a non-Rohn red card from the beasts of the waste.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to take this challenge over, there just seemed to be so many good ideas! I would very much like to see other people's ideas, which have been fascinating in exploring the cultures in equally good but different ways to the way I saw them!
See Challenge # 112.
I was brainstorming ways to capture one of the other aspects of Rohn, the imposition of current artistic trends from above.
I like a lot the way this gives a semi-arbitrary bonus, but one you have some control over. Although it's a shame if it wants you to discard nearly-on-curve cards, maybe it should be just be "top card"? I feel it doesn't quite fit the flavour though, in that it's rewarding people who fit the decree, but not disadvantaging those who don't. Maybe it should be +1/+1 and hit opponent creatures as well?
See Challenge # 112.
A non-rohn red card, imagining one of the beasts paused to leap down from a canyon lip onto its pray.
I used the ETB-fight tech, optionally, so it's a choice between a decent kill spell, or a creature.
