Switched over to -0/-1 and lose one life. Feels a teensy bit messier that way. Ah, well.
Moved into black just to get a feel for what it would look like there. I also removed the "
: Dark Maze may attack as if..." to an attack trigger. Although, that creates a weird conundrum. Dark Maze would be the only wall in the history of Magic to not have Defender. I'm not sure which is worse: Funky wording, or the thing that the funky wording is dancing around.
Also pumped the power by one. I mentioned I didn't need to do that, but I guess I'd rather pique people's curiosity in the set by increasing the power level marginally all-around.
Swapped back to correct casting cost, and adjusted her stats back down accordingly. I'm not a fan of this card, but I'm not sure what else I can do to make it 'good' in my opinion, without making a different card. Frustrating.
I changed Coral Reef back to an enchantment. Still bugs me, but I got to admit that it simplifies the card greatly. That, and I've got a soft spot for common non-aura enchantments, anyway.
Also, I reverted back to requiring blue creatures. I don't like doubling down on a card, requiring both islands and blue creatures. But I got to admit, it's flavorful. I wish the artwork showed what was going on, though (and it doesn't hurt that it makes blue creatures more valuable.) I tried finding some art of a Merfolk crafting weaponry out of coral... but that's a rather specific request.
Finally, I played games to make the last ability roughly work at sorcery speed, when I should have just made the last ability work at sorcery speed. So it does that now. I don't need players not attacking because they don't know how many creatures are getting what counters, when.
Arg! So many attributions to fix. But, yes, that is far superior.
True dat. Changing over.
Gah! Full stop, you will be the death of me!
Ty, ty and ty and marked for editing. I looked back at the original and saw why the exclamation was missing... Wizards forgot to add it in Oracle, and I copy/pasted their mistake. Reverting shortly.
Oh, true. Marked for editing.
Creature types in rules text should be capitalised, so this wants to say "can't be blocked by Walls".
Missing open quote mark in the flavour text. (Also needs the paragraph break changing to a linebreak as I mentioned on Cemetery Gate, but I'm not going to point that out everywhere.)
Typo in the name on the card image ("Cemetary" rather than "Cemetery").
Also, a tip for formatting flavour text of this card and others with attributions: at the moment the attribution is on a new paragraph from the quote, with too much spacing. If rather than just pressing Enter you use Shift-Enter, MSE will merely insert a linebreak, which I think is what you want here.
I'm sad to see the exclamation mark in Grandmother Sengir's quote go away. I always liked the emphatic way she delivered that punchline, and it's not as strong with just a full stop / period IMO.
That is a cunning approach. Powerful card, but indeed feels somehow similar to the original, with the
activation to make its untargetability "better" while still letting her guard down. (It's interesting to realise that the original Autumn Willow is now strictly worse than commons like Benthic Giant.)
Also needs a full stop / period at the end of the ability.
If you'd "rather the cards be as modern as possible first, with as few changes as possible second", then this should probably not have that painfully cramped P/T box, and instead be a 2/2 with "CARDNAME gets +1/+1 for each Soldier and/or Warrior you control."
