Changing names in MSE thru Picassa is tricky. It generally results in having two otherwise identical cards with different names. I've chosen the wrongly named card as the pic on more than one occasion....
Ug. Thank you, Alex.
"Enchant Creature" doesn't need a capital "C" with modern templating. Also missing open quote in the flavour text.
*continues to fruitlessly wave the "MORE 'E'S IN FAERIE" banner*
So am I. Fixed, and thank you Link.
I'm very confused by the fact that the image shows Funeral March.
I was hoping the reformatting of this card would make it readable, but I guess if I want to keep the Coleridge, I got to toss the first two lines. I should probably find more set appropriate art, too. I like the Doré, but it doesn't look like Homelands.
Also occurred to me. The card could read like this:
Flying, deathtouch
Lose 2 life: ~ loses deathtouch until end of turn. Any player may activate this ability.
Which is close enough mechanically. But I think you lose the albatross flavor somehow...
Added a bonus Pyroclasm. That should help distinguish it some from Dry Spell. The color hate doesn't really bother me as much now that the effect is a minor tack on.
Gah! Thank you Alex. Fixing the quote.
I'm not sure what to do with this right now. I think I'm just going to sit on it and come back later with a fresh mind.
It is a little bit odd to be so close to Heavy Ballista. I could perhaps see moving the Islands restriction back to the activated ability rather than an attacking restriction?
Also, I hate to point it out, but: Missing open quote at the start of the flavour text.
Well, I'd rather not move away from the intent of the card if I don't have to, and there doesn't seem to be any real reason to move away from the +1/+1 counters. Trust me, I've got cards in the file I hate more and can't change their core ability. Daughter of Autumn is killing me, Smalls.
Coral Reef did originally say 'polyp counters'. I could put those back on, but I don't really think it adds to the flavor, really. Or, to be more precise, I don't think the word 'polyp' translates to 'weapon' any better than '+1/+1' does.
As for removing the ETB... hmm... you're right that that's a possibility. I don't really like it either, to be honest. And I think the card would stop being a common if we did that, too (you would only ever want to play one of them.) Alternatively, I could just remove the 'sacrifice an Island' line. The card doesn't need it... I've mostly kept it because it was on the original card. But honestly? How many people know what the original Coral Reef does? The crumbum's a common, and I don't think I've ever seen anyone bust one out. I don't think anyone would notice if I removed that line, and it would probably be a better card because of it...
I wonder if you could save space by increasing the number of +1/+1 counters per island and removing the ETB counters? That's a bigger change I don't really like but would simplify the effect.
Or, this is probably a more drastic change than you would like, but +1/+1 counters aren't clearly a coral-reef thing. Maybe something more clearly diving related might be "Tap an untapped blue creature you control, remove a counter from ~: put the bottom card of your library into your hand". Or "...put the bottom card of your library into your hand, then discard a card"?
I actually really like "-0/-1" it feels appropriate to the flavour.
Monkeying around with this card. The Sea Clan has a couple of problems. The first is that, while U/R is appropriate, Reveka, Wizard Savant is blue/red and I don't want two cards of the same multicolored persuasion in the file. Thought about making this Red/White, but there wasn't a real reason for it, since mono-white changed nothing. The 'can't attack, cause islands' is kind of weird on mono-white, but probably not wrong on a rare flavorful card. If u/w was an option, I would have chosen that... but that color combination currently sports Narwhals and Truce (one of which needs to be cut), so yeah.
I also cut the 'opponents need to control Islands to target their stuff', because half of Islandhome seemed restriction enough. Though, at this rate, Dwarven Sea Clan threatens to be not terribly different than Heavy Ballista. Is that a bad thing?
