I don't think I'm ever going to get a Root Spider that both doesn't break the color pie, and feel just like the original. So instead I tried to double up on the flavor. Finding a Root Spider in a trapdoor spider in its cave is supposed to be a shock, so flash. It will kill you when this happens, so deathtouch. Not perfect, but it'll have to do. What you were doing in a trapdoor spider's cave in the first place is your own problem.
Not the most powerful card I've ever seen, but at least this card does a job without being so defensive.
Oh, so we have. Reminds me of Resplendent Mentor which is similar but different.
Yeah, I was thinking about making it a separate line altogether, but I didn't want people thinking it had something to do with the coin flip. But I was overthinking it. Two lines it is.
It would like more like a cantrip if you put draw a card on a second line. Otherwise, I read "draw a card" and got very confused.
Could probably use some flavor text now to fill in the box.
Okay. Turned this into a cantrip approximating Aleatory. Always draws you a card, and sometimes slaps the board for 1. It probably even feels a little more like winter, what with the weather being sometimes cold and sometimes punishing.
High likelihood that this is going to be my Black/Green card for the set. Honestly, the thing holding me back is that I want his power and toughness to be the same as the base card, but don't want to make him any cheaper, either. I'll probably get over it.
What a pain this creature gave me, and how easy a switch it was when I realized this guy could just be a Samite lord. Kind of weird that he isn't a Cleric... but you probably wouldn't want him in a Cleric deck anyway.
I do wonder if this suddenly became overpowered. I don't think so... you would think that Samite Healer ≤ Ghost Warden, so granting the Samite ability to all your creatures isn't better than giving them +1/+1. But this might prove to be a nightmare when red jumps in on the game. Oh, hold it... we've seen something similar with Field Surgeon. Okay, now I can stop worrying about it.
Added 'vampire' to creature type line. If I didn't, the card would just end up bugging me every time I looked at it. Incorrect taxonomy does bug me, but not as much as a card that should have been tribal before passing off to the flavor team.
I couldn't tell you if this is balanced now or not. Either or cards seem tough to gauge that way. I guess this is one of my pivot cards for if White is too good/bad in limited. Take it out on the alchemist.
