Original Card: Daughter of Autumn
- Increased power and toughness by +0/+3.
- Removed the restriction the ability's restriction to affect only white creatures. The white mana in the activation is restriction enough.
Edit: I original ramped the cost on this creature, but then realized that I was unnecessarily swapping Autumn Willow and Daughter of Autumn's casting costs. So I switched them both back.
This card bugs me on a couple of levels. But the thing I really don't like is the off-color activation. I suppose it makes more sense than to do the opposite--make the activation cost
, and have it redirect damage from white creatures. It just... the set doesn't have a lot of off-color activations except for Beast Walkers (which was a white card with a green activation, and is now a green card with a white activation (Beast Walkers) because, you know, logic.) It would be weird if there were just two cards that off-color activated into each others' colors for no 'skeletonian' reason... but two off-colors in the same pairing really smacks my Melvin button. I feel like I should just make this a white creature... except that seems to go against the 'flavor' of this card, whatever that means. A white creature, with a white activation, that redirects damage dealt to green creatures?
Also, the edits as it stands kind of break my own rules. In theory, I either want to change the casting cost to reflect where the card belongs, or change the power level to reflect the casting cost. I didn't want Autumn Willow and this card to be at the same cost, though. And this card, if given a choice, feels like it wants to be bigger, not smaller. Still, maybe I should have gone with
. Or
, as the case may be.
Yeah, expect this to change.
Given that the printed Autumn Willow is 6 mana and the printed Daughter of Autumn is 4 mana, I'd be somewhat surprised if the best thing to do is swap those costs over.
But then, their artwork looks like Autumn Willow is rather younger than her daughters, so... maybe it's just the names and abilities should be swapped?
Ah. I forgot I did that to Autumn Willow. I remember why I did that, too. I had a hard time imagining that woman being any 'larger' than a 5/5. If I kept Autumn Willow's original cost, she'd probably be a 7/7 or an 8/8 for

. Is it just my imagination that that wouldn't look right? Or would it look fine, assuming no one really thought too hard about it?
As for swapping the art instead... I don't know... she does look younger, but maybe by 5 to 10 years. Daughter of Autumn just looks kind of frumpy.
Swapped back to correct casting cost, and adjusted her stats back down accordingly. I'm not a fan of this card, but I'm not sure what else I can do to make it 'good' in my opinion, without making a different card. Frustrating.
