Ok - my thoughts on what this is for: It's supposed to mainly be an interesting speedbump. Drop it on 3, opponent then misses their 3 drop and you've gained a turns advantage. (Well, maybe - depends if you wanted to cast something in main1)
Then, of course, there's the symmetric lock, that you can turn off when you need to (but it stays turned off). If you can find a way to give it lots of toughness, or non-mana regeneration or heavens-forbid indestructibility - it becomes a nice "Ok, gamestate as it is, let's play" (And alternate costs become interesting workarounds)
And finally, if you can find some way of giving it a mana-free untap ability as well, you can break the symmetry and win (though your opponent still has an instant-speed window to act in when you act.)
But mainly, it's a speedbump that's just egging people to find a way to abuse it.
There's actually a lack of straight-up "each player takes X damage" spells: red could definitely do that, and since it's much less useful mid-game than earthquake, it could be sweetened by some upside. (Eg. just "4R. 5 damage to each player," would be printable and good, though not common.)
Yeah, this one needs rethinking - the basic cycle (does stuff to everyone / pay more does focussed stuff) is fine, but needs tuning.
My God, this is still so confusing. I guess that's the point.
See my other cycle :) The nasty part is "Target mana pool" Since when are they targetable objects? Well, they are now dammit!
Not that it's nasty any more, since M10 removed mana burn!
Mana drake? Also, hm, I wonder how this would play. Presumably it's normally best just to pay the mana to destroy it, but possibly not if both players have ~ 3 lands.
Hey, this is printable! Not necessarily very good (Blaze), but definitely printable.
Heh. Also blegh.
Yay :)
I hereby declare that it can, and is :) And whilst I'm at it, I'll make the mana line nastier, and then nastier still because why not?
Name taken by Mana Leech. How about "Mana Leech (not the Urza's Saga one)"?
Yes, it does. That's why I worded it that way. Anything triggered would have problems with instant-speed removal/bounce of blockers. This static ability will work in every case (unless something removes the static ability itself).
It might be nicer to make it somehow modify the damage-dealing event, but that'd also be nastier (as well as nicer), so maybe let's not do that.
If it's not a land, then it can't be type Plains... sorry.
Oh, and no, it's not meant to be a land. Just a shark. And possibly a mafiosa.
Not quite I don't think - chaosphere is better to non-flyers, in that it lets non-flying creatures block both kinds.
Mine is, if I worded it right, exactly what the title says. (Modulo reach) Probably too much faff to make reach symetrical, since no flyers have it naturally.
The plains was just because I couldn't think what it ought to be, and "Planeshark" came to mind, so I gave it the plains ability.
And, um, yes, as worded it gains +4/4 an infinite number of times. Oops!
Does your wording work if a creature dives in the way and then commits suicide? Because that's the main intention, not just defeating "T:Target creature is blocked"
It's slightly different, in that it keeps creature sizes (thus helping big stompy decks)
I'm wondering if it ought to crush all bonuses from other sources too.
I want it to be a "Make the game simple again" card, for Johnny :)
Basically just wants to be Humility...
Oops yes, that was overzealous templating on my part.
Because I really really want it to have just those three words on it, but sadly cannot.
