The rules don't like you. The second ability is active from the moment Simplification hits the battlefield; since the first resolves shortly afterwards, it won't do anything much.

Ironically, you'd want to play it with really wordy cards.

Also, if you're mucking with text boxes, you don't need "Permanent" because that doesn't go in the text box. Are you trying to stop them being creatures? That's quite the stalled game if so.

CH: As currently worded, this is an enchantment and only removes text from permanents, so it's fine...

No, it removes all the words from creatures, then puts +1/+1 counters on the creatures for the words on them...

...No, wait, discussing with Rachael I've realised you're right. By the time the triggered ability resolves, the creatures will have no text.

I'm intending it to turn:

Flying Wurm / 4B / Creature - Wurm / Flying Stuff / 6/4

Into: / 4B / Creature / / 6/4 (and 6 +1/+1 counters if it was in play when the enchantment arrived)

Does that work, apart from losing the 'benefit only to creatures already there' part?

Um. Not really. Most entertaining interaction: I put a -1/-1 counter on a creature, which mutually annihilates with one of its words. Then this leaves play. The creature now has its text as before, except without one of those words...

Although hilarious, not really practical.

Can anyone find a wording that does work? Or an objection to the concept?

This card works differently on each printing of the card and oracle update.

Mmm, yes. That is a problem. And "As printed" pushes it firmly into 'un' territory.

+2/+2 for each ability?

I think the whole thing is pretty inescapably Un. You could do something with removing abilities and giving counters for each one. Even that would be venturing into realms the Comp Rules have avoided, because it'd make multiple copies of (say) Flying no longer redundant.

It's ironic how complicated Simplification is.

"When Simplification enters the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on each creature for for each word in that creature's text. Then all creatures lose all abilities until Simplification leaves the battlefield."

or

"When Simplification enters the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on each creature for for each word in that creature's text.

Creatures with +1/+1 counters on them have no abilities."

it's sad that having additional copies of Simplification on the board does nothing

at this point you have to ask, "is it worth it?"

"Each creature gets +1/+1 for each word in its text box. Treat creatures as though they have no abilities."

frumphgumble

How about: When Simplification enters the battlefield put +1/+1 counter on each creature for each ability it has. Whenever a creature enters the battlefield put a +1/+1 counter on it for each ability it has. Counter all creature abilities. (Abilities are static, activated, mana, and/or triggered.)

I agree "Creatures get +1/+1 for each word in their rules text, and don't have any abilities" is the only possible way to go, although I don't know if it will work or not. You could probably extent that to include the type-line, and characteristic setting abilities, and make it trigger on creatures in play when this comes into play only, but I don't think you gain anything by doing so

Giving up on the complex version - this one just makes all creatures equally mighty, and simple.

Basically just wants to be Humility...

It's slightly different, in that it keeps creature sizes (thus helping big stompy decks)

I'm wondering if it ought to crush all bonuses from other sources too.

I want it to be a "Make the game simple again" card, for Johnny :)
