Every day this card gets closer and closer to being on-curve. Or so the running joke goes.
It's Momir Magic! Only without the chance to wipe out on Countryside Crusher, Leveler, or Phage!
Heh, I see "serious" in the title is a broad term ;)
Seriously cool. Pity it wants to be cast for at least 8 mana, though. I guess Martial Coup was okay...
Heh, Mirari / Rings of Brighthearth for triggered abilities. Now do one for static abilities...
Nifty ability, but the flavour text is made of pure win.
Wow. Um, that's really awesome. (If you have a render, feel free to use its URL, because the mockup engine obviously doesn't handle split and flip cards. And equally obviously, I'm going to have to make it do so eventually...)
I really like this.
The idea behind this card was for it to be an Akroma card designed from Ixidor's point of view. The unflipped side has remained untouched since early 2007, and I was worried about the possible power ramifications of a 6/6 for 3, until they printed Quest for Ula's Temple which validated the whole thing.
The flip side, on the other hand, took a while to come up with something as exquisite and ideal as the card is supposed to represent, but looking back to some old iconic blue creatures from an era where blue was explicitly designed to be bad at creatures, I found some suitable abilities.
You know what they say about four-color cards and how they might as well just be 5-color? Here's my take on a direction they can go with that.
The first brainstorm that led to this card involved just three words in the text box: "Defender, annihilator 99".
Yeah, this card breaks just about every card organizer I've ever seen. "Why would you ever want to have a -3 in a mana symbol?"
