If I recall correctly, Fatal Push was made to some extent to push
as the 'de facto' removal color - at least in modern.
I think this card would still be good if it was a sorcery.
REPRINT: Dream Prowler.
'Unblockable' isn't officially a thing anymore.
Prowler's current oracle text is:
> ~ can't be blocked as long as it's attacking alone.
> Whenever this creature is dealt (combat) damage by a creature, this deals that much damage to that creature.
What I can gather we're looking for something similar to Tephraderm / Spitemare, but not so extensive/broad.
I think one of the better comparisons to this card would be Mirran Crusader. Maybe just dropping vigilance would rein it enough? Or changing double strike to first strike. Currently I think it's slightly too strong.
Not sure about the phrasing. But you would think the word 'deathstrike' would make the mechanic easier to remember. As it stands, I assumed it probably prevented 2 damage and dealt damage equal to the amount prevented.
Yes, the right phrasing continues to allude me. Maybe, "Whenever this creature is dealt combat damage, it deals that much damage to that source."???
Really? Counter strike happens if the creature is killed? I expected it to be something that happens if you fail to kill your target. After all dead foes cannot retaliate thematically speaking.
Could be something like last strike in addition to the normal damage - maybe an option for a counterattack.
Counter Strike was supposed to be something like:
"The next time this creature would be destroyed this turn, you may have it deal damage equal to its power to target creature blocked or blocked by it this turn."
'Counter strike' isn't even listed on the mechanics page... What does it do? Seemingly this is the only card in the set with the ability as well.
Blue has been powercreeping with 1-drop unblockables as of late.
Triton Shorestalker -> Gudul Lurker -> Slither Blade
It's kind of crazy really. IMO Shorestalker already looked like a nice card. Well, it still has the tribal advantage compared to those other two.
Well, this does bounce itself. That might actually make it better in a set with a lot of landfall triggers.
Hmm. City of Traitors but better. I think that's too good.
Heh. Certainly a better card than the original Defensive Stance. Reminds me of... Belbe's Armor, that's the one.
Edited the downside. Maybe too complex or good for common.
I just wanted another 1-drop blue aura for my mono
aggro deck. Unstable Mutation and Essence Flare. :T
WotC should reprint Render Silent but just change the name to "Mute" which would be better, imo.
Ha! D'oh, yes, of course it is. Wants to go in a set like Viruna with lots of activated abilities that target.
.....Wait. No it's not. Because it says "sacrifice both", and you can only sacrifice permanents you control. That's a major glitch here, actually, because most people don't know that; this needs to either say "Enchant creature you control" or... some fiddly wording like "their controllers sacrifice both".
If this is intended as removal, then it's like Reality Acid, and I agree that it should cost about
.
It's removal, guys. You play it on your opponent's creature, then give that creature first strike. It is, however, very hard to see removal. I was wondering if this card could match Unstable Mutations p/t boost before I spotted it.
That said, that minor bump still bugs me. And, for removal in common blue, this is really, really cheap. Any chance you can bump this up to
and give the creature +3/+3? That should solve both problems nicely.
Mm. For this downside I'd expect better-than-Aqueous Form levels of benefit.
Turns out this is Render Silent plus a cantrip for
. Which given Cancel vs Dismiss is probably fine.
So, like, the reasoning is something like: enchantments are disliked because they're 2-for-1 when your opponent kills the critter; let's embrace that, make it even MORE 2-for-1 downside, and in exchange we can give it an upside that's not really that good but is out of colour?
