That IS unsettling!
Name: Scar-Taker
Creature Type: Aetherborn Mercenary
Flavor Text: Even after being driven to dark deeds in order to find meaning in its short life, this creature preserves a sense of humanity by paying the price of its sins, with scars that mark its being to the very core
I know this card doesn't fit the classic idea of
being the color of "Amorality" (not believing in morality, more or less), but I still think there is a lot of possibilities for a philosophy which is 'I have done immoral things. I acknowledge that. I am willing to face retribution for my stained soul'
NGL, I stole this from a South Korean Manhwa called 'Dimensional Mercenary'. On top of being fun, it's one of the best explorations of morality I've read from the medium. Another, 'SSS-Class Suicide Hero' has one of the most heartwarmingly tragic stories I've ever seen (the main character is on a new level of self-sacrifice), on top of being unbelievable funny and entertaining!
Welcome back! Last week we added Brand counters to the database, and I wanted to see if we could make another interesting creature with Brand counters. This card admittedly color pie bends. Originally, this was a 5/5 green creature... but I had to admit that the combination of odd card draw and brand counters was a little too much of a pie bend. I've been holding back on the black cards because there was too many of them in the file, but maybe we can toss one in just this once.
But what is the card's name? And what is its creature type?
Damn yeah they could make some really freaky art for this one!
Alex takes this one this week. I admit that as soon as I heard the name, I wanted to see the artwork for that Unsettling Ranch... but I had to keep my mouth shut to remain impartial. ;)
See everybody on (((NTC #078)))!
Voting is up! Click here to choose your favorite card name // token name combo!
I don't know if this is inspired by JMG's delightful image of driving cattle, but to me this looks like an Unsettling Ranch that creates a Brand token.
Or another possibility:
Lone Crematory / Mortality Token
Ooh, your "pain token" is a good name. Very metal! :)
Effigy Fields
Pain Token
"Oh, it's nice to be back from vacation. I just drove from Cleveland to north of Boston, and boy is my herd of cattle tired."
ROFL :D
Interesting. Let's try:
Sulfurfall Fields
Harvest - ...Scourge Token...
isn't tapping a land for mana essentially harvesting it ?
I really didn't want to put "Activate this ability when you could cast a sorcery" on there, but I figured I had to. If this token is to appear with any amount of frequency at common, it needs to not cause incredibly complicated combat interactions. :|
Oh, it's nice to be back from vacation. I just drove from Cleveland to north of Boston, and boy is my herd of cattle tired.
Playing upon where we left off, Jack gave us the keyword 'Harvest' for Wall of Berries. I liked how Harvest worked with etb tapped lands, and wanted to see people come up with a name for a red/black harvest card, so here we are.
We also get a new friend for Clue/Food/Treasure tokens. I wanted something that made the player second guess if it was worth having their land etb untapped. Sacrifice speed for value, or vice versa.
What is this card's name? And what's the name of the tokens it creates?
Have a good vacation! See you soon!
Thank you jmg! Have a good holiday!
I like "Contribute" too (or maybe "donate"?)
I was also considering something like "The Cavalry" as in "dramatic rescue" and the ability something like "Entrance" or "Arrival", but I couldn't quite get it to work. (And the connotations of "Cavalry" as "the good guys" or "the pro-order guys" are not really appropriate.)
Sorry about the long voting period everyone. I just started my road trip vacation, and it's sucked away all my usual desk time. Not that I mind so much. ;)
Jack wins this week. Sorry amuseum for naming after voting went up. If I wasn't so preoccupied, I would have added you to the poll.
I think it's pretty obvious that I can't be on top of NTC while I'm on vacation. So I suppose NTC needs to go on a little vacation too. See everybody with (((NTC #077))) in about a week and a half!
