I see. I'll do something a bit closer to that, but also opposite
There was a cycle of cards like this in Shadowmoor that turned creatures to a certain color UEOT and were cantrips. The blue card of that cycle was Cerulean Wisps.
it's one of those flavor-based cards that is top-down but only goes down from pure flavor to printing instantly
Hmm, that'll make putting a blue mermaid token into play interesting :)
This is a very limited usefulness; Thoughtlace was permanent, and there was a similar cycle of "As many targets as you like" as well. They made something only blue; so this is subtly and perhaps interestingly different.
But it's still very limited; and less good than those. So maybe this should cantrip?
my bad typo
So "Blue" as a creature type? Okay.
Fair point. Will heavly increase cost
Oh; I love pointing out the "infinitely worse" part. That should totally be the flavour text :)
The main reason why this is better is that Infinity Elemental only has toughness 5. So while it's a terrifying threat, it's one that can be dealt with. This also has infinite toughness (not really, but big enough) which means that only flat 'destroy target' can deal with it. Which is a big thing, it basically means
have zero ways to deal with it ever, while
is pretty limited and only
can really hope to stop it.
I put it to 6. Because infinity elemental cost 7. This is infinitely worse, but still great.
If it's still too cheap, I could make it more green-heavy. 3ggg maybe? Or i could put it up to 7 or higher. But i don't know why this would cost more than an infinity elemental
This is still always going to be (60 - at most 7) * number of players.
So it's a minimum of 100/100. Even in limited it's 60/60.
Which is fine for an un card; but yeah, needs an upcost.
I should actually limit those to the ones in your game...
This will get an upcost
I think this is an 'un-set' card; mocking templating. And after all, Un did recently print 'infinity' as a power; so sure, why not? The actual number here is finite; although we don't know exactly what it is, it's gonna be big enough for any purpose.
Saying that - infinite toughness as well makes this better than the existing elemental; and so it need a significant up-cost.
So is this just a thing where we guess what would "cards not in your hand" entail or do you have an explanation ready for that?
Well, i guess he kind of is doing the transformation, right? I mean, you tap him, another creature becomes some other creature from, say, 4th edition and then the turn ends and it isn't anymore, reverts back to original state
@Vitenka: Oh wait, I presumed the boi here was the one doing the transforming. Not that it was transforming other creatures. I guess the over-the-top power level didn't let me see that it was even more absurd than my mind first proposed.
Yeah, Vitenka is right about the digital thing. This isn't an effect that would work well on paper.
To be clear, this card doesn't make a creature another random creature that is in play, it literally makes it ANY creature from Magic. So unless a special gamemode was made for it on MTGO, then the only other way to play this in paper would be to go on scryfall search RANDOM (if they have that) and then just remember that X card is that card for this turn. Pretty terrible design. But i let myself get away with that here. Basically FLAVOR tops EVERYTHING in this dump. It's how I SO REALLY WISH and ABSOLUTELY DO NOT WANT AT ALL magic to be like in real life.
Oh; I was assuming replacing it with literally any random critter. Cloning from something in play is probably legit too though.
Not sure why you can only activate it once a turn is surprising? I mean, you tap it, you get to use it, done. Next turn use it again?
Choosing a random creature on the battlefield has happened at least once before with Infectious Rage. I remember the Latest Development article said something to the effect of "We're not sure if we plan to do this on the regular, but we're trying something out." I guess the experiment wasn't a resounding success.
I will say, though, that this card has an awkward problem that (unless it happens to randomly get itself) that you can only activate it once. That's going to confuse some people. Or maybe I'm underestimating the player base.
You could always fix this by stealing a little from Sakashima the Impostor. If the ability is meant to be repeatable, I'd also argue the ability should be harder to activate so that the controller has to commit a little... but you may not be serious enough about this card to care.
As in, this card can only really work in magic online; not on a real table.
I don't know what you mean by that, sorry... I seem to be a few wavelengths off of yours for the last few days in terms of understanding your comments, im sorry for that.
Digital only; but hilarious?
