Whoops, was too focused on looking at Burn Away instead of Annihilating Fire.
Wording updated.
Doing the match on twice/thrice, it's not at the power level I want - at thrice, X=2 is already a hefty enough life payment, and X=3 is pretty much a guaranteed counterspell unless you're really behind. Twice is within the realm of acceptable to me, but I'd rather load up the front end for a cheaper counterspell than potentially getting punishing at higher mana costs.
Wording has been changed.
Ah, Tahazzar beat me to both comments. Okie doke.
A peculiar card. Maybe some variation with "twice/thrice the X life" could also work and be more elegant? Idk. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
"Three" should be written as "3" here - see Vitalizing Cascade's oracle text.
Usually this effect is written out as:
> "If a creature dealt damage this way would die this turn, exile it instead."
In any case, the current version is just wrong - it shouldn't have "instead" paired with "when".
So either it should replace the death by exile ("if ... instead" variation), or - when the creature dies (ie. is put into a graveyard), the ability triggers and exiles it from the graveyard.
Should the name now be "Immortal Rat" instead of "Lucky" xD ? The flavor on this one is quite fuzzy currently IMO.
Added flavor text.
Now everyone gets monstrous. Not too good, but should fill nicely if a control deck hasn't picked up a finisher late. This doesn't exactly finish the game, but bequeathing things onto it just might.
I figure it should be okay because all colors can improve creatures they control. Not so sure about the ability, but indestructible is well within colorless's pie so /shrug
Flavor change.
Now has reach for extra anti-flying.
Functional Reprint of Explosive Vegetation, but the name didn't quite fit in with the worldbuilding I had in mind, so I changed the name.
New design. Probably plays better.
Now modified to be more flexible Strength from the Fallen.
Buried Ruin, except
instead of
to better line up with effects found on Crystal Chimes and Skull of Orm, though neither are directly comparable.
Colorless usually doesn't have to pay much to recur artifacts, but it rarely recurs enchantments. So I figure this cost is okay for it.
Flavor doesn't quite match up because you never dread this going off, but it kind of works? Closest comparison in powerlevel is probably Sorcerer's Strongbox, which was pretty garbage.
Based off of those ancient seismographs used in the Han dynasty.
Not so sure about this being an end step check trigger and Baleful Supplicant being an upkeep trigger.
Precursor Golem*.
Adjusting this design. Precurrsor Golem copy. I think you'll rarely target this with a combat trick anyway, but it's there as a johnny card that might get you some more value.
Flavor text removed. Activated ability is now bob, in order to make the first ability less free but still give aggro a reason to attack while not being good in every single black deck.
Name & Flavor change.

The "if you lost life last turn" has appeared once before on a
card (First Response), but I feel it can be used in black in conjunction with the typical "if an opponent lost life last turn". Triggers only on your opponent's upkeep because otherwise the opponent would be de-incentivized to make an attack. Hopefully should play fairly intuitively and there won't be too many players trying to draw at opponent's end step and getting mad when they don't get a counter.
Type change
Spirit tribal. Spirit tribal is pretty split between big things and tiny things, so I figure I might as well include both.
No relation to Floodbringer.
Yeah, I was more thinking about red cards. The card is meant to be red Zephyr Scribe, pretty much.
