Interesting design although in practice it seems likely to just hit for 3 most of the time, making it sort of a worse Bump in the Night with the bonus that you do get to the see your opponent's hand.EDIT: Somehow I forgot about the forced discard, even though I do recall prosessing it the first time around. Cool card albeit I do question it at common due to power and grokkiness reasons. Also it's too complex at common according to NWO due to having 4+ lines of rules text (and I think the sort of a "minigame" here is a bit much for a common card).
As far as power is concerned, this is either
The first "mode" is obviously busted so the focus is prolly on the "low floor" second "mode" given this is a punisher card essentially. The second mode is also quite a powerhouse from what I can see as a Bump in the Night + hand reveal and a discard is quite something. There aren't many cards to compare that particular effect though, maybe Vicious Rumors?
In the grokkiness department, I think it's pretty easy mentally to connect "choose a card in hand" and "that player discards a card" into "that player discard that/chosen card" which then implies later on that the discard was optional on their part. An easy way to alleviate this potential issue could be to change the later wording from "if they didn't discard the chosen card" into "if the discarded card wasn't the chosen card" which should make players realize that discarding is always mandatory / other cards can be caused to be discarded by this. Although that makes it ambiguous if one does take 3 damage when they have no cards to discard...
Currently Ta Hšûn, Mind Ablaze is the only Sphinx in the set and that's a mythic rare. You prolly are going to have few Sphinxes in blue at lower rarities (?)
Archon's Arrow also hates on / removes specifically Sphinxes which seems a bit redundant perhaps with this as both are commons.
Perhaps make the ETB not mandatory so you don't have to exile one of your own tokens if there's no other target. Ie. "exile up to one" or "you may exile".
Seems crazy complex for a common.
Hmm, looking the set there are a large number of cards at common with similar levels of complexity :/

Previously used Color counters, with the thought that I was seeding them for the next set. I think I changed my mind.
