Hole filling, I chose Shock, and random generator gave me Horned Cheetah. Well, red can't get straight up life gain, so... um... well there's clearly got to be a 'when you deal damage' trigger... but 'equal to the amount of damage' dealt just sounds silly on a Shock.
Unfortunately, I couldn't get out of the way of the gigantic elephant in the corner that told me I was re-designing Lunge. So I just made this Lunge. At least for now. What I really want is something like this:

Instant
~ deals 2 damage to target creature. If [condition is met], instead ~ deals 2 damage target creature and 2 damage to that creature's controller.
But... I can't really think of a condition that involves the Horned Cheetah. Maybe "If a creature you control dealt damage (dealt 2 damage?) this turn."? Kind of sloppy, honestly.
EDIT: Oh. Duh. If your opponent gained life this turn. Well, that's what the card will likely change to tomorrow.
Nope, no reference I'm aware of. I just found the imagery incredibly amusing.
You could say "burning each other" or "burning everything." (Or even "burning all the things.")
I wasn't sure if 'died' covered sacrifice... which it has to... otherwise Morbid wouldn't make much sense. Thanks Alex. I also flipped and snipped at Vitenka's comment, turning it into a false haiku (ablaze sounds like one syllable, and works better than cutting another one) and making it the flavor text, now that I've saved a few words. I assume Vitenka is referencing something that I don't know, or slipped my mind... yes?
And in the halls, wise old men entered into meaningful studious debate.
By setting fire to one another.
On the wording, rather than "for each card named ~ that went to the graveyard from the battlefield this turn", how about "for each creature named ~ that died this turn"? Creature cards on the battlefield are more normally called "nontoken creatures", and I figure you may as well let Johnny make and sac token copies of this if he really wants to... at least, it's not worth adding the word "nontoken" to stop him.
:D
Compromised. "Three or fewer." Also, I don't know if Wizards wouldn't print this nowadays. It's been a while since we've seen Undo, but people keep pointing to cards that are rather similar to it. Whiplash Trap alone makes me wonder if this is fair.
It's so weird to see "Blaze" on a blue card. I like the card, though.
Oh, god. That is a horrible pun. I think this should say "has fewer than three cards," not "three or less." I like it, but I'm pretty sure Wizards would print it costing more.
Filling holes, I chose Regress, and random generator gave me Wheel of Torture. Kind of funny how this is working out. If I wasn't hole-filling right now, I would probably make some convoluted artifact. Instead, the Wheel is bowing to the needs of the bounce spell. Restricted this one to creatures so I can have a reasonable casting cost attached. Also, is it me, or does Wheel of Torture have the worst pun out of all Magic cards in existence?
Thanks Alex. I can be my own worst critic at times. The occasional "Dude. Lighten up." helps.
I think that's fine, and doesn't even count as cheating. You don't have to take Cancel as absolutely enforcing "hard counter". This is a very plausible mashup, in that I wouldn't have been surprised to see it printed in Time Spiral.
Due to hole-filling, I chose Cancel, and random generator gave me Blazing Effigy. Then I cheated... it's one of the rare times I've ever done that... I changed Cancel to Mana Leak. The more I tried to force it to be Cancel, the more the card spitted and shrieked. It just didn't want to be a hard counter, plus do something that cared about the number of cards with the same name plus remain a common. I fear I might need to make a few more compromises when hole-filling, which kind of bothers me.
I don't know why it didn't occur to me to just drop a 3/3 giant token to infer the Giant is still kicking around, instead of going through the trouble of making sure the giant didn't get shuffled, then removing it's abilities. Guess there's no reason I can't change it now....
