Sigh.
... "If and only if you use this ability then you may spend that mana to play and only to play exiled cards"?
Yeah, no wording is gonna end up short.
Hm. You can't just say "Spend that mana only to play exiled cards" without also something letting you do so. Perhaps like Haakon, Stromgald Scourge: "You may cast each exiled card you own this turn if you spend at least one of this mana on that card." or "For each exiled card you own, you may cast that card this turn if you spend at least one of this mana to cast it."
Wait, just realized something. X is intended to be used only on exiled cards, not on anything. Wording ideas would be helpful.
And Alex, good call spotting Ice Cauldron; my Magic knowledge doesn't extend back far enough to have spotted that myself.
When you copy and paste from another card, make sure to change the card name to ~.
Wow, that's a classic flyspeck-3 card, isn't it? And yeah, it seems a very tempting area to put cards in. Just hard to make simple enough.
Oh my goodness. I just realised what this card is. This is in fact a remake of Ice Cauldron!
You get to save mana from one turn until a later turn, for use on a very restricted set of cards, but on that later turn you get the saved mana plus whatever mana you draw from lands/etc on that turn.
I find this card interesting. The strangest part about this card, though, is how much you should pay when you cast Aether Revival. The correct answer will often be
+
, since you don't need to remove counters to activate the ability...
Still, I don't think that makes the card bad. The enchantment still requires sacrificing, so it works fine.
No, it doesn't need "as though they were in your hand" these days. And yay for extracting the interesting "cast your exiled stuff" to a card. Colourless enchantment should really be an artifact though; the flavour differences between them are pretty minimal.
No point choosing not to untap it, as you can just avoid activating the ability. But nice effect: probably more likely rare, but I could see it happening at mythic.
Ah, ok, I get it, it's turn offable. Verra nice if you've got a druid or something to untap it at eot.
Probably has too many words on it again. :P Tap ability fixed.
This was created for Challenge #022.
Not sure why it enters tapped, since it seems to lack a tap ability.
Interesting effect. Probably needs calling out for what it does with multicoloureds, but I like this one.
Put X counters on ~ might work better :)
Probably needs 'as though they were in your hand'.
And... yowie. Could be interesting.
"The first and second ability feel like an artifact, and the third feels like a sorcery or enchantment."
Now, it/they is/are! See also Æther Revival
Gah!!! Darn Challenge #022!!!!!!!
Reworded for modern templating:
>
: Put X grave counters on ~.
> Remove a grave counter from ~: Add one mana of any colour to your mana pool. Spend this mana only to cast card from your graveyard.
> Remove X grave counters from ~ and sacrifice it: Add X mana in any combination of colours to your mana pool. You may play exiled cards you own UEOT.
Intriguing set of abilities. I'd say that either the second or the third ability are interesting enough to be on a card on their own, which is just as well because the card currently has way, way too many words on it.
It doesn't really feel like a land, though. It doesn't add mana, it just filters it for graveyards. The first and second ability feel like an artifact, and the third feels like a sorcery or enchantment.
