How about making the creature bigger and removing its ability to block? Kind of like a slow Ball Lightning?
Gore Swine Can fill a similar role but be both more appealing and more elegant.
I kind of like its interaction with exploit, and it should be fine at common. Brackwater Elemental and Fog Elemental were commons. Mardu Blazebringer is the only precedent in red.
On the other hand, we do have 3 red three-drops and only 1 four-drop, and no red vanilla creature.
What about Borderland Minotaur?
Not really feeling this one. Couldn't we come up with something better than Mardu Blazebringer? Besides that was an uncommon.
Does this feel like a bad version of Kuldotha Rebirth to anyone else? I mean, couldn't this just be a
-shifted KR at
instead of
?
Does everything have to be as good as or better than it's precedents? Why not just +2/+0 and steampowered toughness?
1) That is a complete break of the cycle.
2) The point of the cycle is lenticular design
3) We've already discussed this line haven't we?
Buckshot (Common)

was
Buckshot deals 1 damage to target creature or player. If
spent to cast Buckshot, it deals 3 damage to that creature or player instead.
We could just word it like our new Contemplate.
~ deals 1 damage to target creature or player for each
spent to cast it, then deals 1 damage to that creature or player.
Not sure if that's any better though.
: Target creature gains trample?
Yeah, I can see why. I do not like the math in the X version.
This has weird interactions with Generator Servant, are we ok with that? I mean they're a pretty obvious combo in limited since they're both commons.
would it be possible to give this something in addition to Trample? I really do think our common
abilities should scale.
>>>Buckshot deal X damage to target creature or player, where X is 1 plus the amount of
spent to cast Buckshot.
This is the version we had in the original Archester. We switched to the current wording b/c it confused newbies in testing.
I believe absorb 1 would would actually absorb the whole spell even under your wording. As I understand it (though I may be wrong. I could not find the exact rule), each instance of the words "deals damage" is a different instance of damage, unless it is a replacement effect. If you really want to avoid the absorb edge case, the wording I think would work best is something like so :
Buckshot deal X damage to target creature or player, where X is 1 plus the amount of
spent to cast Buckshot.
Shortened wording:
Buckshot deals 1 damage to target creature or player. It deals an additional 1 damage to that target for each
spent to cast Buckshot.
This does change a fringe case but I think it is worth it since we went off of the Renegade theme in
. (The fringe case being damage triggers (Only 1 trigger instead of 3) In this case, a creature with Absorb 1 would soak the entire original version but with the new wording would take 2.)
Into the Wilderness is cool, although I would put it as Into the Wild.
Venture into the Wild? Wild Ventures? Tracing Tales? (Going hard on the 'Tales' aspect) Trail Tracing?
Also Grim's wording is perfect.
What about Into the Jungles/Wilderness? it would go well with Grim's rewording since it would be like you're bring back tales of the lands you found.
I have nothing against being 'confusing' (Explore, Exploration)
Here are my ideas: Trail discovery, Undiscovered Wilderness, Trailblazing, Trailshaping
Too bad explore has been taken. It'd be a perfect name for a Victorian era exploration card.
Although I should have checked gatherer, there's already "Trailblazer" to "Trailblaze" might be confusing. Maybe needs an adverb?
I too like the name "Trailblaze" and sorcery speed.
Probably not, but our As-fan for non-creature artifacts is really low, and will probably stay low even after we do the artifact section of the commons. From what is listed in the skeleton, we expect to have a total of 8 non-creature artifact at common. Is there a compromise between hitting most of the field and hitting only 8 specific things?
Would "Trailblaze" be ok as a name? With "blaze" first it sounded a bit red.
Looks good. Probably should be sorcery speed?
That'll work well, since it also scales with the amount of
you have. Good idea.
I disagree. Our "ASFAN" of artifact creatures is even higher than SOM, Shatter allows for
to have a Doomblade, do we want that at common?
I prefer a less restrictive wording
Put the top 4 cards from your library into your graveyard. For each
spent to cast ~, return up to one land card from your graveyard into your hand.
Too similar to Blaze a Trail
