I imagine you already know this, but this is too similar to Bloodshot Trainee. It'll work exactly the same 95% of the time.

Yes, but I couldn't think of another way to do it for black that was still fair. :/

Hmm. I agree "Target player loses 4 life" would be a bit excessive. What about "Target player reveals 4 cards from his or her hand, you choose one of them, and that player discards that card"?

Instant-speed discard is kinda powerful lockdown though.

Is "Target player loses 4 life" unfair? You could have just swung with your creature. a 2/3 Unblockable, Vigilance creature would be better most of the time. That costs about 4cc.

Attacking creatures, even evasive ones, feel a lot less unfair than "Hah, you just get hit for 20%" Though I agree, the unblockable creature of pure evil would probably win just as many games.

V: Good point, it'd have to be sorcery speed. That's perfectly doable though.

jmg: I'm not sure. It tripped my alarm bells. It might be printable, but it does feel pretty harsh.

I think it's tripping alarm bells more because it doesn't exist. It certainly doesn't sound "unsafe at any speed", since a 7cc, 7/7 that tapped to make a player lose 4 life wouldn't be perceived as very strong. Though, I admit, Sorcery speed would help make this feel more normal.
