Hmm. The ability will cause a lot of people to frown when they realise it gets bigger just too late to make any use of it. It's obviously good with first strikers or burn spells; more subtly, it's also good with painlands and suchlike. But it's a bit too antisynergistic with "attack with lots of dudes" for me to be happy with it as a mythic.

Too bad it doesn't have double strike.

Hmmmmmm...

Switch trample for double strike? Simple enough fix.

Changed trample to double strike. Feels less frowny, more scary.

Yeah this is really nasty now it's a 15 point swing on its own. 5 first strike then 5+5 from ability normal damage. Very Mythic

Yowch. Double strike is definitely a more sensible ability to pair with this triggered ability... but 15 points of damage might be a bit much for a 6-mana flyer, even if it's mythic.

Of course, I might have similar criticisms for a number of Wizards' mythics, such as Baneslayer Angel or Inferno Titan, so...

Yeah, I find it hard to judge. On the one hand, I can't beleive they printed some of the cards they did print. OTOH, if you play this and can follow it up with a spire barrage or any other simple burn spell, that's thirty-five damage in one turn.

Upped to 7cc from 6cc for the sake of fun.

Yowza! This is the first time I've seen this card, and I got to admit, it makes an impression. It does make me wonder what Wizards would cost a 5/5 flying, double striking dragon with no bonus ability... I assume Shivan Dragon isn't good enough now... though he could get reprinted for nostalgia value. Hmmm... it's also interesting comparing this to Akroma, Angel of Fury to see what Wizards thinks is a fair {5}{r}{r}{r} cost 'dragon'.

Shivan Dragon is definitely playable, though not a powerhouse. Akroma, on the other hand, is just overkill.

I think this card should probably cost triple-{r}.

Heh, I'm somewhat surprised you guys feel this way. I'm pretty sure Gisela, Blade of Goldnight trumps this straight up, but maybe the simpler card text makes this look scarier because you don't get bored of deciphering the tiny text.

You know, the funny thing about Gisela is, that for a time, she had the highest community rating out of all the cards in Magic the gathering. I know, because I was doing an article on the 10 cards that had the lowest rating, and I flipped the numbers to check it out. That, of course, was because she was the new hotness... and almost every person out of the 40 that voted on her gave her 5 stars.

But, while this card doesn't have Gisela's spectacular damage rebuffing ability, it does kill an opponent with a single swing and a Shock. That's 23 damage. Zap gives you 19... very close, but no cigar. It's certainly scary... so, yeah, the visceral impact is huge. I also wonder what people would cost a straight up 15/5 flyer.

I, however, didn't suggest this card should cost 8, and I don't think Dude did, either. I think he was expressing that it should be {3}{r}{r}{r}, which seems fair. It seems better than every 7 drop I know that doesn't have a self-preservation clause, but almost every 8 worth playing I can think of comes with either a self-preservation clause, or nets you card advantage. Then again, if you're a 'one swing evasion win', then maybe you do deserve 8. What do I know?

Just to be clear, I wasn't dismissing the suggestion that this is perhaps inappropriately costed.

In the context of Red's curve, {3}{r}{r}{r} would probably be preferable, as Wasteland Fiend is already sitting at {5}{r}{r}. But I'm wary of heavy colored costs in partially multicolor set.

It might best to evaluate the cost and effect in relation to the other Mythic legends:

W: Genma, Vastal Arbiter U: Karos, Regent of Themestria B: Immortal Ahriman G: Pelora, Hand of Creation

I think Genma and Immortal Ahriman are in relatively safe-but-exciting form. Genma is pushed for Constructed purposes, but not a severe bomb in limited, just an annoyance; Ahriman is a huge limited bomb, but hard to cast and in a weak color. (Note: I should probably make Ahriman's ability require tapping...)
