Interesting! So it's a Desperate Ritual that nets you 2 mana rather than 1, i.e. Seething Song levels. Seems fine for a two-colour card in the two best mana colours.

My question is: why untap a land rather than just add the 4th mana? If the land happens to be a Gruul Turf, obviously awesome, but are there any two-mana lands in the set?

It felt more green to have the 4th mana be from an untapped land.

Saves printing "Add {r}{r/g}{g}" if you're not otherwise using the dual symbols?

Or just a gift card for people who like finding fun way to extend cards out of set, maybe.

I thought hybrid mana was only a cost, not something that could be produced?

Hybrid mana can't technically be produced, Sorrow's right. But if an effect (like Elemental Resonance or Charmed Pendant) tries to add hybrid mana to your pool, you choose one of the colours of it and get mana of that colour instead. So, yes, Graven Cairns would work exactly the same if it said "{r/b}, {t}: Add {r/b}{r/b} to your mana pool."

(formatting help)
Enter mana symbols like this: {2}{U}{U/R}{PR}, {T} becomes {2}{u}{u/r}{pr}, {t}
