This is a Nightmare with double strike that grants other Nightmares double strike. Why not "Nightmare creatures you control have double strike," which eliminates three words and a line of text?

Because that's how all "lords" are templated. Reference Goblin Chieftain, Bellowing Tanglewurm, Captain of the Watch, etc., etc., etc.

I know, but that templating annoys me.

It's kinda nice to not have to worry about "Is this a lord type A or type B" Maybe they should have had a second subtype for it, but.

Also - eeeek! Most Nightmares are already pretty terrifying! They don't need a x2 lord!

As a hopefully meaningful comment: Should this really be splashable? And isn't it a bit odd that it has dementia but other nightmares don't?

What? All Nightmares in this set have dementia.

And yes, it's intended to be splashable. Given that the alternate damage mechanic in this set is spread among three colors (as opposed to just two in Scars, for example), I'd say splashable bombs are almost a necessity.
