Ah! I assumed you meant it, it was an ultimate. But not is definitely more sensible :)
Yep, I think your comment is entirely correct. A self-Blinking Ally is definitely cool. Join the Ranks will get you two extra copies of a planeswalker ability with this out.
Two of these on the board... I have a feeling they actually go infinite. That could be a problem.
Intriguing. Feels not-quite-common, but I guess it's just Clockspinning, so should be okay. I love the idea, but I do feel Ally cards are easier to read if "Ally" is capitalised (as it is on printed Allies like Kazandu Blademaster).
Hah, looks like I've got Y in the list of mana symbols (which is why it's not treated like {A} or something), but not got the actual image in the images directory. I'll fix that :P
This is a nice sensible, powerful spell, that works with two of its companion Planeswalker's abilities. Thumbs up.
Probably not actually a very sensible accompaniment, actually, because it needs you to play with mostly white creatures, and specifically doesn't work with the common Sentra's Enforcer. I should consider other options.
change from +1,-1,-8,[5] to +1,+1,-8,[4]. Also add UEOT to Insurrection.
Er, yikes! It was meant to be UEOT.
This is possibly too complicated, but in actual play, it will almost always be the same as "Exile ~ and return it to the battlefield", ie. "Do all ally things twice".
However, I wanted something that sounded snazzy.
And originally I wanted something that could interact with the planeswalker abilities. Unfortunately, I can't think of any wordings that would quite work. I think you can copy the planeswalker ability if you play an Ally Instant in response to it? But if this is triggered by Gideon, Leader of Heroes' second ability putting an Ally into play, that ability will still be on the stack as this is triggered (?) but will be gone by the time it resolves (?)
I wanted a simple ability that would interact with allies and planeswalkers. Et viola.
I wasn't sure about reusing an existing planeswalker, but I really didn't want to bother inventing a new one, so I picked a reasonably helpful white- green- or blue- colored planeswalker already known to have visited Zendikar.
I think Allies is obviously a bit of a narrow theme for a real planeswalker, but I think for the challenge I can imagine a set where more allies are printed.
I also considered a plus ability putting a small ally into play, and a tutor ability, but I decided that what an Ally deck probably wanted was something that can help it keep playing an ally per turn.
There's unfortunately some tension between the +2 and the ultimate, as if things are going well (or really badly) you may not be able to use the +2, but I decided if things are going well enough, you may be happy to activate the +2 for nothing, and if things are going badly, you probably need the -1. There's still the problem that you don't especially want to return cards to your hand before casting your ultimate, but it does let you trade off more freely. I'm not sure.
Originally the ultimate was the same as Varlan the Grower, since "Copy every creature you have in play" is a good win for an ally deck. But I decided that you wanted something that would give you a second wind, not something that would crush defeated opposition, so it lets you dump all the ally cards you've drawn onto the table whether you've played them or not. That ought to be enough to win. (You could also do "X copies of target creature", which has less memory issues, but I decided "play all" would feel more satisfying if you'd been holding something you couldn't play)
There's still the problem you can't tutor up specific allies to answer a problem.
After brainstorming a few niches for planeswalkers, I came up with Gideon, Leader of Heroes, Gideon's Archmage and Gideon's Acolyte.
