Challenge # 015. I find it funny that my 'answer' quote is close to being an answer itself to my previous quote. "Green says that the way to happiness is to let life happen, eh? Well," says Blue, "If you work on something over and over again, it will become second nature. Then you'll see how harmony with environment really works!"
Also, I haven't seen "successfully cast" in Magic parlance for a while, and it evidently doesn't appear on any oracle texts anymore. I dug around. It seems that all cards that used to say "successfully cast" got changed to "played" since there was no way to properly trigger a successfully cast spell. Of course, since my trigger is at the beginning of the opponent's end step, it doesn't seem like there's a real problem... besides player confusion, of course.
For Challenge # 015. The original quote is:
The pursuit of happiness is a most ridiculous phrase; if you pursue happiness you'll never find it.
C. P. Snow (1905 - 1980)
...which is a very green response to a blue/black wizard's attitude. That much I'm certain of. I could have made this a 2/2 with Protection from Blue and Black and felt okay about it.
Equal Treatment
Based upon your comments, this looks like an answer for what Independent Streak was. I got confused at first, since the two cards together are technically a combo.
That is, of course, assuming you weren't going for "this is the problem, now this is the answer"... a solution to combo potential. I admit, I did leave the concept of an answer card kind of vague, because I knew that would be difficult for many.
Maybe Absorb 1, or Shroud? I suppose, if this card was to be printed, it would have to spell out that it can't hit itself. That being said, I really like the Power of Fire set to a random target.
Hmm... I think I would like this better without the indestructible bit. It would feel even more flavorful.
That looks good to me.
Oh yeah, and this is rather dubious colour-pie-wise. I originally had it as white or blue, without the damage bit; a Curse of Chains that makes the target harder to kill. But that felt more like crippling the creature, not like it wandering off to do its own thing. Plus the self-absorbed hedonist idea is so utterly red, it felt wrong in any other colour.
Awesome challenge! I created Independent Streak and Rigorous Discipline.
Later, created Moral Decay and Turn Evil to Good.
For Challenge # 015. An answer to Independent Streak. The flavour to me seems to be that your creatures have these habits of getting tapped, and it's only with diligent attention that you can stop them getting tapped. It's also a fantastic Johnny combo-piece reminiscent of Voltaic Construct.
For Challenge # 015. I read up a little on Alice Roosevelt; she was a poster child for the independent hedonist, who'll do her own thing and damn the consequences. This enchantment is trying to say "Enchanted creature will do its own thing and doesn't care what you want it to do."
Yep, I agree - nice design!
I also made Alleviate Hope.
A second entry for Challenge # 015 and an "answer" to Planned Approach.
This should probably cost more.
I made Planned Approach.
For Challenge # 015.
This is a pretty nifty Utopia Vow. I'm trying to think of what type of creatures I would play in this deck. Kraken Hatchling seems obvious... as well as a number of Lorwyn Merfolk like Surgespanner.
