For Challenge # 016. I tried to cut some text, but really, all of it makes sense together for me. If I was pushing this card for reals, I'd probably move to make it a double faced card. Probably with the +0 ability flipping him over into a creature until end of turn.
You know what, let's do that. Squee originally turned into a 1/1 goblin creature similar to Gideon Jura and took damage in the form of losing loyalty counters. Now, he transforms into this:
Squee, Still Squee
, Exile a card in your hand: Return ~ from your graveyard to your hand.
Legendary Creature - Squee
At the beginning of the end step, transform ~.
1/1
I also took this opportunity to shove the "return to your hand" clause to the "back". That's a really cool trick for double-faced cards... I'm almost surprised they didn't pull that stunt on an Innistrad rare.
Also, also: Squee doesn't return to your hand at the beginning of upkeep anymore, because I figured that would probably be too good with this card. Besides, he's a Planeswalker now. You're going to have to pay him a
mana for that sort of privilege.
I got to agree with cmeister... this makes sense to me. You won't be getting anything really good until round 7, and even then, it isn't backbreaking. This just feels like a suspend card that players can effect with instants.
Holy! Draw a card every turn for
? Is this right?
Also, this probably would have worked a bit better if you cut the -2 ability out. This planeswalker already has 3 abilities without it.
It's funny, because it doesn't seem broken, no matter how I slice it, in standard. But Donate for
may be crazy good in Legacy. This would certainly be Illusions of Grandeur's new best friend. And the fact that you can keep giving Sarcomancys to your opponent is kind of funny.
It's a bit of an odd ultimate, actually, because you'll probably have been giving away land to get the loyalty that high. The opponent will have 10 land to your 2, but you'll have all the board position they accumulated in the meantime. Of course, like the legend card, it's better in multiplayer, because you don't have to advantage the same player each time, you can give people things as political tools, and there'll be more nonland stuff to gain.
Haha. Yeah, there's a theme among these red planeswalkers.
Is this just intended as a discussion of possible abilities?
I think the other issue is that he uses the keyword Proliferate. Though Garruk Relentless broke the rule, they tend not to use block-specific keywords on planeswalkers.
I'm really liking Zedruu as a planeswalker. Her mix of abilities seems fun, especially the last one. Also, unlike the others, I like that she's generally not going to be "hurting" your opponent immediately. That gives a nice balance to the fact that she's out so early.
Sorry. I created this in a rush yesterday, and forgot to come back and do that.
This, as Alex stated, is for Challenge # 016.
I made Evoar, the Servile and forgot to post that I did so.
Yep, it was supposed to be pretty strong. I figured though that as a 1 mana "suspend 6/10" spell, it would be fairly balanced.
The "gain 1 life" ability is surprisingly useful if you can get it down on turn 1, so this may still be a bit strong for
. The third ability used to be "an angel with flying and vigilance". I wanted vigilance so it does you some good if you're in trouble, but an X/X flying vigilance was too much better than existing white fliers, and I liked X because of the symmetry with your life total :)
The +0 is a tweak on "tap target creature"; you get the same two turns of it being inactive as if you instant-speed tapped it during your opponent's attack step but half a turn earlier, but you can't do it at instant speed.
Thanks! When I saw yours, I realised that the first ability must be pretty inevitable :)
Heh. I hit "Booster", and got one of these as a common. That'd be a bit of a mad draft strategy to allow, putting these as common.
Mmm, looks good to me. Same idea as my Chandra, Newly Sparked, but I think you did it better.
I'd agree with that. I'd think about this having both 1-damage and 1-poison, except that you'll normally want one or the other, so that's not really much stronger than either alone.

This is mostly a pretty boring design - similar to the original Chandra Nalaar, but less strong and a heck of a lot cheaper. See Hassti the Corrupted for a discussion of what abilities are okay on one-drops.
One notable point here is that the rarity is rare, not mythic.
Created Hassti the Corrupted, Chandra, Newly Sparked, and Zedruu, Negotiator.

I looked at what abilities one-drops are permitted to have. Tormented Soul and Goblin Fireslinger say 1 damage to a player every turn is okay, and Glistener Elf says 1 poison counter per turn on a 1-drop is okay, but Honden of Infinite Rage and Cunning Sparkmage say you can't hit a creature for 1 more than once for less than 3 mana. This card does it every other turn, like Chandra, Newly Sparked.
I think it's fine for a 1-drop planeswalker to not have an ultimate.
