@jmgariepy: I couldn't decide. The names just seemed suspiciously similar for them not to have changed "Kessig run" if they didn't want to make the reference (even if they decided on the name of the "Kessig" region beforehand), and there are several other references to other media in Innistrad (eg. the defender plant that has protection from zombies is a reference to the awesome computer game plants vs zombies). But OTOH, the card doesn't seem to have any connection to the Kessel run other than the name, and the Kessel run isn't a horror trope in any way I know of. And it's quite possible that whoever named and copy-edited the card had never heard of the Kessel run, if they didn't hang around on starwars message boards, even if they are a geek.
I don't think I called out the uno one as an obvious one. Since, no, I don't remember what wilds do. I called out yugio.
Here's the rules for the xfiles ccg, if anyone wants to try and work it out: http://ccggamez.com/files/xfiles/XFCCGAdvancedRules.pdf
Oh, and with Kessel Run: The destiny number of a card is the number in the top right corner of the card (On Kessel Run, it is 5). When a player is asked to reveal destiny, they discard the top card of their deck and use that number. In theory, you want high Destiny numbers, since you traditionally added them to combat. Kessel Run appears to be taking advantage of your opponent's high destiny saturation, though.
Actually, there's ONE good thing it can do; arrange the top 5 cards of your deck. Smile. Cast this and set them aside. Watch your opponent sweat.
Or even better, set FOUR of them aside :)
Has potential with, I don't know... Shelldock Isle / Isleback Spawn, maybe?
Man, I am not hiring that farmer to build me a deck. He just cut my neighbor's house in half and asked him which part he wants to keep!
Well, it's "Explore, and exile some of your deck" which is... yeah. Why would anyone do that?
Ha! I'm glad to see this idea worked out well. Since Vitenka 'spoiled' what a number of these cards 'do', I might as well fill out the rest of the ranks.
Wild Draw Four - Vitenka mentions that this is an obvious choice, which makes me wonder how much Uno has been played around the house. When a player plays a 'Wild Draw Four', they name a color, then the next player draws 4 cards. That player must play a card of that color, or keep drawing from the deck until they can. It's a nasty little card in Uno... the type that experienced players never play until someone is going to go out, because it will either mess someone up, or allow you to auto-win (since the card itself is wild).
Cigarette Smoking Man - I have no idea as well. But when I saw his abilities accompanied by really strange numbers, I had to toss him in. :)
The Mad Magazine Game was came out in 1979 and was a maze board variant in which the person who lost all their money first won the game. Losing all your money in Mad is very hard... At various points, when a person has almost won, he might get sent to the poor house, where they set you up with some more money. There's also a $1,329,063 dollar bill in the game, which is given out on rare occurrence, and is as difficult to get rid of as it is to get. The game is full of other strangeness, which, if I do this challenge again, is a prime candidate for being added. And that bonus card boggles my mind every time I see it...
@Jack: Man, as much as I doubt Kessig Wolf Run is based on Kessel Run, I... I really want to believe it is true...
Wow. It's a pretty drastic effect for 3 mana. Somewhat hard to control, but got definite potential. Given it cantrips, and does Explore as well, I think this is just fine for 3 mana.
You can always print it in a set that has no other poison creatures :) Poison just seems a great fit for epidemic :)
As said, it ought to be GW instead of GU. And sure, it lets every colour get removal. But "Removal of a very specific thing 3 turns later" is pretty weak removal.
Actually, Oblivion Ring isn't an aura even though it looks like one. It deals with Arrest and similar creature removal that are auras, (and not mind control), which is what it does well, but is still very narrow. I think few "protect my stuff" cards are played unless someone is looking for a specific answer.
Thanks! Hm. I agree the larger stats feel better, but I thought it was interesting that you might get two 2-drops on turn two instead of saving it for later (and not overpowered compared to llanowar elves, giving you two 2-drops and a three drop over two turns instead of a three-drop and a four-drop). I'm not sure.
I think it doesn't let you split one large mana payment, I think you have to pay for a spell all at once.
I think it's usually fine, since you can normally only do something you could do in one more turn anyway. I'm also sure it must be broken somewhere, but I'm not sure where :) My best guess is a combination of fast mana and a creature or artifact with an expensive mana+sac ability that's devestating if you get it early. But I can't actually think of anything :)
Not really preserving colour pie in any effective way... especially since blue is also prohibited from Disenchant.
adding trample and haste
Nice design. Manages to be balanced while holding true to the Dominion numbers, which takes a little doing. Faintly reminiscent of Tinder Wall or Wild Cantor, with a dash of Oracle of Mul Daya.
Well, the value of X does matter, because a big X makes it bigger, and gives you a bigger range to choose from (and you can bid high if you've got more life than them to force them out)
And yeah, I guess you're right - green is probably allowed something better than a hydra, native, isn't it? Powering it up now.
Huh. Cute. This would require stopping the game to figure out who's doing what to what, but that's a good mini-game to play.
Mmm. It's really tricky for the game to tell whether you "could" cast a spell. It miiight work if you say "if there are no other cards in your hand you could play if you played a mana ability of each permanent you control". But it's pretty fiddly. And I'm not sure how it would handle Mana Reflection and/or Fertile Ground. With that wording it'd prevent you from casting it if you had some mana abilities you didn't want to use, such as Ashnod's Altar, Basal Sliver etc, but that seems OK.
Pleasing translation of the card though.
Very solid card. For a second, I almost thought of this as being the natural conclusion for "Longest Road", when I had to check myself, and realize that this required a few leaps, and just looks natural since it comes together so well.
Huh. That is nice. Yes, your opponent will usually choose 0 or a low number, but sometimes they'll be desperate to stop you guessing right and pick >=2, and you'll have to try to double-bluff.
Since there's a disadvantage, this can probably be X+1/X+1 or have trample or something?
I'd be inclined to make it a 2/1 or 2/2 for
.
I wonder if the rules work to stop this letting you get an 8-drop on turn 4. Probably so. You can still get multiple activations of any poly-activated abilities like Level Up or whatever, but that's fine.
I don't think it's broken unless you can recur it easily, and I can't find a way to do that; even Recurring Nightmare doesn't really do anything exciting.
It's a better card as a simple card; but yeah, there are some environments you wouldn't want to allow this to exist in.
Still and all; it ONLY deals with a very limited set of cards. Sadly, that set includes Oblivion Ring and probably you aren't allowed to nuke that quite this hard.
I'd have been tempted to overcomplicate this card... and in fact I think I will.
Gut out of jail free.
I think I'd like this card if it used "Win the game counters" instead of poison counters (and require less counters to win). Seems like the strategy would be more fun if it didn't have support from Team Infect.
For Challenge # 024 and directly inspired by R's Get Out Of Jail Free, but preserving colour pie a bit. (Should really be GW, but can't work the pun in then)
Also re-introduces the '3 turns' part of Jail in monopoly. but makes a nice clean card dirty.
Ooh... that is cute. There will be times when this card when you where X will be your opponent's life total, but that probably makes the card more charming.
Hm. Like Six-y Beast, but benefits choosing low rather than high. So the value of X doesn't really matter, as most people will choose 0, 1 or 2.
Deck Cutter, but it's RUBBISH. Dominion Wood isn't much more fun.
And yes, this is a GOOD challenge. Just a really hard one.
Ok, put together Gut out of jail free. to answer Rs.
