I made Is Land and Cop Per Myr.
For Challenge # 025. I thought it could go with the Policemen in Clockwork Wings.
For Challenge # 025
For example: "the extraterrestrial space ranger Moon Hero N", Kelly Digges's nickname for Moon Heron; or the old classic Counter Spell, something like a prequel to Clockspinning (although that isn't as great an entry to this challenge as it is still a blue instant like Counterspell).
Removed legendary. Increased toughness (was 0/1).
I didn't actually mind Veteran Swordsmith being a soldier: it makes sense that in a big army, everyone is a soldier, but some of them have more specific roles as well. But I agree it's a shame it wasn't a blacksmith instead or as well, I'd love a blacksmith deck :)
Doh. Good call on legendary: I put that on when it drew a card every turn and I wanted the extra minor downside. It's not necessary without that, and simplifies the name as well.
"Artisans" are generally "Artificers". Of the 10 Something-smiths that should probably have type Blacksmith, most of them have type Artificer at the moment. The rest either have no class type or type Soldier - and unfortunately two of them are tribal Soldiers, Veteran Swordsmith and Veteran Armorsmith. How do you concept a Swordsmith as a Soldier? I mean, really.
On a slightly more on-topic note, the word Legendary seems out of place on this card. It's also making the class type Woodcutter unreadably narrow. Remove?
Put in "woodcutter" as type. May combine with an existing type later.
Yeah. I think it makes sense to group types together somewhat (eg. having "birds" instead of "falcons" because we dont' have enough different types to be worth it), but not too much (I'm glad we have octopuses, etc) but there's room for some new groups like "blacksmith" even if they're quite small. Having a race as well as a class means the can't is totally tribally useless even if they branch out a bit. I guess wizards don't want to make lots of one-offs becuase they used to do that too much, and don't want to create new types they might want to errata out later. But I agree a bit of experimentation is good.
Maybe "artisan"? There's some of those?
Personally, I just think they need to stop making so many creature types compatible with Tribal. I don't see there being a problem with having a "Human Blacksmith". In fact, there are probably 10 creatures in Magic that could have that type. But, no. Everything's got to be a warrior or a soldier, a shaman, a wizard or a rogue. Those are the only allowable creature classes.
Indeedy, you have to be tough to harvest from apple tree folk :)
If they're sentient trees, there might be a bit of a hint there too.
They generally don't print new cards with just type "Human". They want to give them a class type wherever possible. Time Spiral was a bit of an exception because they were doing the purple reprints (Jasmine Boreal just got the creature type that she had in Oracle at that point, as did Flying Men). Village Ironsmith is another exception, and a very odd one; it's bludgeoning home how much they need to bring back the "Townsfolk" class.
Yeah, I should have given him/her a name as well, but I couldn't think of anything. I couldn't decide what other type would be appropriate for a woodcutter, so I left it off for now; I hadn't realised there were so few "Legendary Creature -- Human" cards, I guess because for a long time human was the default, they only used that when someone wasn't a wizard, warrior, etc. Although there are a few (Crovax, Ascendant Hero, Jasmine Boreal etc)
Mageta the Lion :)
Actually, this is potential combo material, since you still have access to your mana (including the
you added to your pool before returning this to your hand). Add something like Ashod's Altar and go to town. In fact, cast two of them in the same turn, then drop an Emarukul into play.
Remind me not to tick off guys with monocles and top hats. Those guys totally flip out.
Man, I'd totally play this card. It looks like the sort of thing they'd make an FNM foil out of, since it would be popular in a lot of decks, but far from busted.
Heck, looking at the top 5 cards, then even split is pretty good. Assuming there's shuffling. Oh crud, there probably isn't shuffling. I don't know if I want or don't want you to shuffle my house up...
Rules aside, I like this translation. It's certainly got unexplored territory and you can see where it evolved from. Also, it's another card down that no one has touched. I'm going to have to do a pass tomorrow, see which cards people aren't poking, and poke them. Tonight, I shall have nightmares where I'm playing a game of Mad Magazine as an interview for the people at Wizards. Then, I draw the "This card can only be played on Friday" card. And it's Friday.
Heh. "Legendary Creature - Human" is kind of funny. Reminds me of Perseus in Clash of the Titans constantly insisting that he is "JUST A MAN!"
Oh, man, the heralds are pretty broken with this. Your opponent would be all like "Okay. That was pretty nuts, but if I deal with this Sphinx, I'll be okay." Then, you activate Sphinx's Herald again, next turn...
Other suggestions:
Voidmage Prodigy
Spawnsire of Ulamog (Admittedly, it won't matter much that you can use the ability twice. Rise of the Eldrazi, the set where "Cast any number of Eldrazi cards you own from outside the game without paying their mana costs" was not sufficiently powerful to be one of the mythic eldrazi :))
Necrotic Sliver
Sphinx's Herald
:)
Riptide Chronologist and a Tim effect works too.
Favorite combo: Tezzeret the Seeker searches up Door to Nothingness, animates it, and the you cast this and get "
: Target player loses the game." And it's repeatable!
